Yes to the BACS payment question, it only said that. No to the tax rebate and cash back question.
The bank said to wait for 72 hours for someone to claim it and if they don't then you can keep it.
I'm sceptical...0 -
Which bank?
Better get their recommendation in writing, and read all the words very carefully.0 -
Just as a general point (and I really hope it doesn't resurrect an argument), I had an electronic tax rebate come through a few days ago. The reference was "CHQ HMRC" - although it wasn't a cheque.0

Yes will do that
Hopefully they will ablige

Highly unlikely that this is the case. You'd be surprised how many trolls post on here. Not least when the school holidays start.........0 -
I just had 2 premium bond prizes come in. First time I've had the bank transfer option to get the prizes.
They just appeared on my statement/online banking as "BACS transfer " followed by a long random looking code. The 2 prizes had different code numbers (presumably the premium bond serial number).
I had no idea what they were and then decided to check my NS&I account, and sure enough there were 2 prize in the prize history.0 -
Well done on the win - You as opposed to the OP checked where the money came from and can confirm its authenticity - the OP just spent five grand and if it happened at all and it is not a troll the five grand supposedly owed to them from HMRC never arrived either.ChumpusRex wrote: »I just had 2 premium bond prizes come in. Hi all
I am in a similar problem, I have been credited with £98 into my account with the creditation saying BACS payment. Not sure who it's from!
I've heard many stories of people receiving money and being reprimanded for it. The bank have said to wait 72 hours (as that's how long it takes for the bank to realise its mistake) then I can keep it. However I'm not to sure about that? Should I get that in writing perhaps ?
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
...just a bit of support for the above post -a few years ago our bank account was credited by over £100 which we weren't expecting.
I contacted the bank directly I noticed it -but they really weren't interested -they said that no doubt someone would be chasing within a week or two,to recover the money, the teller just suggested (with a laugh!) that I didn't spend it all at once ......but it never has happened!! For a couple of years I kept the extra always available -no longer bother!!:)
What really startled me ,was how little interest the bank showed:(0 -
Yes, absolutely. Are you suggesting that you would not?
If I was in the car park when I noticed, yes. A week later? Absolutely not.
I don't believe I'd be in that sizeable a minority in this instance either. But as mentioned elsewhere, let's not let this go too far Off-Topic again because it turned into a 'he said/she said' so this particular query is for another thread on another day.0
