That is an interesting solution that I hadn't thought of!

What about using fabric conditioner though? and also I want to dye some towels in the machine which instruct you to put the dye and salt in the drawer....

I will bear this in mind as a last resort though!

    Thanks!

I was going to suggest putting the soap in the drum.

I have never used fabric conditioner. It's a complete waste of money. I put some white vinegar in the conditioner compartment for towels only (keeps them absorbent). You'd only need to open the drawer for towels then.

If you have enough room currently to use the dispenser then I can't see an issue, it doesn't matter if you can't pull the draw out all the way as long at there is room to put the powder in which you have at the moment.

You will have to watch how the draw opens you will need one that pulls straight out, mine opens in a curved shape which wouldn't be suitable as you might not be able to get to all the compartments.

The only issue would be the taking it out completely to clean but if you use mostly detergents that go straight in the drum then you wouldn't need to clean it that often.

We do have enough room at the moment, but it is a very old machine (think VERY old!) so not one of the modern curvy shapes, and it only just allows the drawer to be pulled out.

Also I do like to use (very diluted) fabric conditioner, so not using one at all is not really an option. I find the drawer needs cleaning occasionally as well as it gets a bit scummy, so never being able to open it doesn't seem like a good move.

It would be a very expensive mistake to buy a new machine where we couldn't get the soap drawer out at all, and like I say - you can't try them for size first.

Are ALL dispensers curvy types on new machines? If they are then I can see your problem.

My washing machine is in a corner too, but not with other units, just a wall. Mine fits ok, despite this position. It might be worth going and having a look at somewhere with a really, really large range and taking something like a hard back book, tablet or whatever, to hold where unit, corner would be and see ing what's possible? ( my drawer is straight not curvy, my machine is about four years old I think ...feels new to me!)

We have machine with a centre powder draw, it is a Fagor and comes with a full 5 year parts and labour warranty. Looking online they seem to be on the left side on the newer models too.

I became all hopeful when I read this, but having looked online all the ones available at the moment do seem to have the - apparently standard - left-handed soap drawer.

A centre powder drawer would have been fantastic, or indeed any without the soap drawer being on the left!

    Hung up my suit!
I've got an AEG Lavamat 6100 and the soap dispenser is on the right.

I got all excited again and looked for AEG w/m online - but again all the new models have the soap thingy on the left hand side !

I did find a few second hand Lavamat 6100 on eBay and you are right, the soap drawer is on the right. None were local though.

I think it is a conspiracy...

Why would you need to wait for installation to see if it fits? What is stopping you from opening the drawers in a shop and measuring how far it comes out?

Most drawers pull out, so I don't see how it can be a problem, if you can't open a drawer a few inches long how do you open the door to the actual washing machine?

I don't know if there still is, but both samsung and hotpoint used to make a washing machine without a drawer.
