at last, a proper response, thank you coupon-mad. the point I was trying to make in my original post was that trying to create a situation where you get all threads and posts to comply with the rules will never happen. you say you have tried the "ignore" debt collector thread approach and it doesn't work, so then there is no alternative, don't ignore them. you can't create the perfect poster, posters are going to !!!! you off and they are going to continue to create debt collector threads.0

Yep, I agree. And recently we've been answering very helpfully to a fair number that came in since New Year. We do try. Right now it's manageable but we don't need someone ranting about the tone of this thread itself. That's unfair.
It's not a sticky, it's just a thread linked on the sticky and it was posted in utter desperation by me one day, when I felt like screaming at the 9 DRP thread-starters for every one PPC thread-starter. I felt if I read the word Rossendales one more time I would just give up.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

No, I tend to create threads to give advice. This one included, it was deliberately written in 2014 to get Google hits for words like Rossendales.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

doesn't change that you are trying to create a forum world where people won't create debt collector threads, they will.0

We know they always will - I don't disagree!
But this thread and the NEWBIES sticky has made it manageable, believe me this is nothing compared to how it was when we were drowning in such threads. If I stop ten people each day from starting a thread because they've read enough to know to ignore, and only two people post each day, then it's working.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

doesn't change that you are trying to create a forum world where people won't create debt collector threads, they will.
You can see how successful stickies can be by looking at the Radio Codes stickies in Motoring - A few years back, the Motoring Forum was sinking under the weight of code request threads - it took a while certainly but now you only see a handful a week, a managable amount. The vast majority of posts go in the correct threads, where they get helped quickly - also disproving the lie that new posters don't understand stickies because a very significant proportion of those posters are new!0 -
Pity there is no way of making a newbie read the stickies before they can post.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

shamelessly bumping this so any newbies can read it and hopefully continue the reduced number of debt collector posts (apart from Gladstones who seem on a roll at the moment)0
