BT landline with Broadband with 10 GB monthly allowance

Eh! Unlimited BB only costs us £6.65pm and we are in the sticks so BT is our only real option. Coupled with line rental saver and anytime calls ~£25pm...
In the dark ages we also had the 10GB limit. Never went anywhere near it until I started watching youtube daily even then I rarely went over the 10GB.
Now that daughter thrashes the internet unlimited is the way to go...0 -
Just another update,
It's been 2 months, since we took the BT line rental with free BB ( limited upto 10GB) and the last 2 months we paid extra 5.30 pounds for going over the 10GB limit ( only went over it by 1-2 GB)
Got an email last month, stating BT is gonna increase the charges from 1st Dec- also read abt it here in MSE weekly emails.
now my question is
as I have paid for the line rental upfront ( 12 months) and is getting the BB free with it, can I use this and cancel my contract with BT, and hope they will pay back whatever Line rental I paid upfront - or if I take the MAC code and leave, they will sting me with no refunds plus cancellation/ early terminations charges. Even though, we are not using much internet on a day to day basis, it looks like we need unlimited downloads.
I have had a look at the forum and there are quite a few discussions on this, but haven't been able to find an answer to this0 -

Based upon your post the 40GB package covers your usage .0 -
thanks JJ Egan,
the only reason I mentioned unlimited downloads, is coz, then we don't have to worry about going over the limits. So far, the last 2 months we went over our 10 GB limit , once by 1.2 GB and the second time by 0.6 GB -but on both occasions, we ended up paying 5.30 pounds as that's what BT charges, for going over upto 5 GB.
anyway thanks for your very constructive and productive comment.0 -
Monitor usage with Networx
bear in mind it will only be monitoring the computer it is installed on - not the other data using stuff in the house such as smartphones etc.0 -
If you've paid upfront, why would the increased line rental affect you?
You can try to get a proportion of your pre-paid line rental refunded if you simply want unlimited broadband; cancellations will have more clout anyway

skyjumper,
We were in a similar situation to you, although our 12 months pre-paid line rental period was until March 2015. Last month I phoned BT up, and explained that I was looking at cancelling because of the price rise and eventually got put through to their equivalent of the retentions team. All I wanted them to do was match the price that Plusnet would charge us which was going to be about £15 per month unlimited BB and anytime calls (we're limited on offers because of our exchange). Without any hassling the guy immediately said he would do a new 12 month deal for £10 per month (obviously bear in mind we had paid the line rental already) for unlimited BB and anytime calls. I took that straight away, as it was nearly £5 per month less than I had been paying for the 10gb service, which we had started exceeding regularly.
We had looked at an occasional £5.30 charge, but one month we got stung for 5.2gb extra (£10.60) so that forced my hand.
Given that you're only a couple of months in this time, their reaction may be different, but if you had to sign up for a new 12 month deal it wouldn't be too bad I guess.
