Someone or something MUST be using your allowance !!!!
My usage is about the same as the OP & I hardly touch my allowance in a month.....0 -
thanks for all the comments and suggestions.
Where I live, there is only one BT wifi hotspot, with very low range, tried connecting to it, but it keeps getting d/c every so often.
there are only 2 devices connected to my wifi - my laptop and OH's ipad.
We both do not stream anything online , including youtube and the likes.
I just check my mails, check HDUK and MSE every now and then, and also browse news - NOT watch news, plus browse some amazon once in a while.
OH rarely gets to use her ipad, with 2 small little ones at home, but again she does check her mails plus google things. Def no streaming or watching anything online.
I will try speak to BT tonight and see what they can offer.
Can I change from BT to something like EE or talk talk or plusnet , it's my first month into a 12 month contract and I have paid upfront for 12 months line rental? just a thought0 -
Email and surfing really doesn't use a lot. I have a 10GB monthly 3G SIM which sometimes gets quite a pounding for the 6 days out of 7 I'm normally away from home and that never gets close to being used up.
For the most part though Ithink the BT limited use products can be a bit of a catch penny as countless people exceed the limits and end up paying as much if not more in over usage fees than they would by taking the unlimited option. Just a bit of iPlayer daily can make those limits look very small indeed.0 -
Yes but it makes no sense to do so - you'd lose less money swapping to an unlimited deal which BT will allow for sure. Can I change from BT to something like EE or talk talk or plusnet , it's my first month into a 12 month contract and I have paid upfront for 12 months line rental? just a thought
Your own router will be generating a Fon hotpspot which you can use and that usage will not come from your 10GB allowance. BT made a mistake recently booking Fon usage against the account but that should not happen.
If your usage is as you say it's difficult to see why you are exceeding the 10GB. It's a far from unusual tale though. Either people regularly don't realise what they are doing or BT have a serious error with their usage tracking.0 -
I have just checked my average monthly broadband usage figures for you.
As I said earlier my usage is very similar to yours.
My average monthly usage is .77GB..........
So how BT gets that figure for you I don't know.0 -
3.66GB for one person from 1st to 17th August according to the BT Usage Monitor.
If you disable the Wi-Fi capability and connect by Ethernet, it will certainly cut off any leeches
I don't know if that disables FON, but easy to check by doing a scan of available networks.
I have to say 10GB a month between two people is a bit optimistic. You are going to have a row about all those shoe adverts she keeps drooling over.0 -
If you leave BT one month into a 12m minimum term, then you will be liable for an ETC covering 11 months (i.e. the majority of your whole year cost.
Why not just resolve the issue? No free lunch, and no free laptop

I was on the phone with BT; was advised I will have to pay 18 pounds per month to upgrade my plan to unlimited. even the customer care representative was a bit puzzled so he went away, putting me on hold, to check with his ''managers'' - came back and told me it's unfortunate, but will have to pay up0
-
the other option given was - pay 5.20 for every extra 5GB usage every month ,still better than 18 per month- I guess this is my best bet at this point in time.0

Apart from that it is £16 on their website, did you demand that they will offset the amount you paid in advance already? They also offer a discount of £8 for the first 6 month. Did you even ask for both deductions?0
