I think ive been scammed.

I think the chargeback decision will happen much sooner than the paypal dispute. I did drop myself in it with paypal with the split payments so I think hope is lost with that cover.

Im waiting for a letter from Barclaycard which will tell me whether paypal will honour the chargeback.

I wouldnt lose all hope as the dispute system is automated and if they seller doesnt respond it will automatically go your way after 10 days, only if hey reponds does it go to be looked at

I think it's safe to say that the bank wouldn't say that you can't dispute transactions until they're written down on a piece of paper because that's ridiculous and I was trying to help the OP understand what they might have been getting at rather than being obtuse and going out of my way to take things too literally.

UPDATES:

Chargeback was raised, no reply from scammer to either of them.
Both chargebacks are now in the dispute centre on paypal in a 'currently being reviewed by paypal' state.

I wish I knew what happens next!

Hi all, just me again!

Chargeback is still 'being reviewed by paypal' even though money has gone back on the card.

Does anyone know how long Paypal have before the chargeback process is complete? The scammer has long gone and Im hoping the case will close shortly so I know my chargeback isn't going to get reversed. Its coming up to 1 month since I raised the chargeback.

Can't see PayPal try to reverse the Chargeback., unless they suspect that you were in on the scam. In other words that you know the scammer and have split the spoils.

GOOD NEWS!

I logged on payal today as I have been doing so for the past month and saw that both cases for the £1000 have been closed! I called paypal and they said Ive got my money back and theres nothing to worry about.

So overall Im very happy with the result and extremely glad I did not loose my money. I have learned a valuable lesson from this and that is not to become too comfortable with Ebay or Paypal when buyer protection is involved. Furthermore, I hope this person suffers the consequences for what he tried to do. Id expect he's probably been doing it to others judging from his methods.

Anyway, thanks for the support everyone! Im off to PCworld to buy my laptop! :j
