Thanks, just being able to rant has helped!

I've calmed down a bit and re read the email. It seems the extra debts were run up because the house sale took so long to go through. It still seems wrong though that I'm the one paying for it, especially since at least some of the delay was down to problems with their mortgage application and with the bank 'making a mistake'.

It's finally all sorted, I got the money last week.

Sister, of course, had to have the 'final say', and didn't acknowledge receipt of the accounts. I assume there was a standard length of time to give her oppose them, since the estate is now settled without her approval.

She should be pleased though, as she got more than me in the end although only by a few hundred.

I now need to decide whether to complain about the solicitor. There's no way it should have got to the point of me making enough mistakes that sister had the right to sue me for maladministration (she didn't, but the solicitor said she could have done - that's why I ended up selling the house to her) because that was the whole point of engaging a solicitor in the first place!

I don't like the thought of her continuing to practice and other people suffering, but I have a feeling I'm out of time anyway.

Thank you so much to everyone who supported and advised me through this journey, it's been hellish but it's now over and the destination is wonderful - not least because dad and sister aren't around. It's amazing how much better life is when you're not constantly being told how useless you are.

  • DeAr Ames,
Thank you for your update - I'm glad things are finally settled, and that you can put that all behind you.

Whilst you may have a valid complaint, you are not likely to achieve much by pursuing it - a hollow apology might come your way, but it will just stir up all your unhappy feelings again.

Perhaps write one of those letters that never gets sent, where you get out all your feelings on paper, but which you then tear up (I burn mine - very satisfying, if somewhat risky!).... That can get those toxic thoughts out of your head so they don't Use up your precious energy.

Do something nice for yourself with a little of the money if you can, and look forwards to the future.

    Good luck!

What a nightmare this has been for you! I'm so glad that it is now over, the peace of mind you will gain from that is worth a few hundred £, even though it sticks in my craw that your sister and father have been able to treat you like this.

I wish you health and happiness for the future.
