I think so. I know it's silly but I just wanted it over and done with. I didn't think the price for everything was that bad.

I couldn't get any more advice than I had at the time. I didn't actually rob anyone or commit a crime. Just bought a Packard Bell that I thought was an ok deal.

I didn't want a larger monitor as it is going to be in my living room.

We know what you did. You asked for advice here, had a thread running since August and then you ignored all the advice and went to PC World. That is a crime here.

Since when is having a slightly larger, better quality and more versatile monitor in a living room a problem?? You either have a monitor in your living room or you don't. 21.5" or 24" should make little difference, aesthetically.
But viewing angles, the ability to view from a distance and being better for your eyes may be more important.
A monitor with only a D-SUB connector? It's already old hat straight out of the box.
Of course it all works, but did you pay £500+ for something that just works?

The problem with this forum is that it is an electronic forum, and sometimes the human factor gets forgotten, such as the reality of the person's life behind the messages. I'm not going to justify my choices to anyone. I did take into account much of the thread, and then made my own decision. I suppose nothing would be the right decision to please everyone else, because everyone else has their own needs and opinions.

Thanks for all your help. Much as I have further questions, I'm damned if I'm going to post them here.

That is good to hear, time wasters and thread stumpers are just a nuisance!

After much deliberation, I've bought one. I went for this, from Curry's.

    http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/desktop-pcs/desktop-pcs/packard-bell-imedia-s-2885-desktop-pc-10011021-pdt.html

I paid £80 for a monitor on top.

    I

PS it's not out the box yet, let's hope all goes well.

I hope that it is working well for you. I am sure that it is. The famous comment about computing is that it is obsolete as soon as you get it home, and the price has probably dropped too so don't worry about what we say.

I would have suggested a Novatech computer for £225 and probably not their cheapest monitor so spending about £90, depending on the size you wanted and your budget. You could have negotiated not having to pay the microsoft extortion and having linux on it, if you were willing to use Gimp rather that an expensive photomanipulation package.

    Best wishes.

Don't be so ridiculous. Because I made my own decision, after setting up a thread to ask for advice?!!

As I said, the human factor can get forgotten on forums - resulting in trolling. It doesn't bother me, I won't take anything personally thankfully, as I know only pathetic cowards do it.

Thanks, yes all working well thanks. As I said, I just had to get on with it as it was affecting my work not having a PC at home. I'm happy with what I got and yes the Microsoft bumps the price up quite a lot, so in the end I thought I just have to consider convenience as well as money. After all a PC is an essential item for me so I considered it to be just another big bill. Considering that over years I had invested virtually nothing in computing, I am not too bothered about the amount I paid for a modern machine.

It's not just the money. It's just that people spent a lot of time on you and you ended up buying what most would consider rubbish. That is as plainly as I can put it.
McAfee? You won't find even a single recommendation for it on this board. The monitor? Just the cheapest they had. Quality didn't enter the equation. The PC? After twelve months, you are on your own...unless your purchased a Care Plan or similar.

As to suggestion that we don't consider the 'human' factor...that is clearly insulting nonsense. So it was we who suggested that you stay within budget, rather than burden yourself with more debt....until you could save for a better, more balanced rig. But instead you bolted, ignored all advice and bought relative carp.

The reason why we here take it so personally, is because we took you seriously.

I won't make the same mistake again.
