  • Redcurrant jelly in a cottage pie is pure genius!!! Definitely trying that one!! Yep, we are big on a huge Sunday roast and the subsequent days food from it too :)

Actually our ultimate, ultimate plan is to buy a forever home too- once we are rid of our old (forever :p) house, and have cleared the debt. Some serious deposit saving to be done when we are in a position to do it. THEN MFW territory!

Hoping house prices rise over the next few years as much as some agencies have forecast, will save us chucking the negative equity payments down the drain! But then it would be good if they could crash again just in time for both of us to buy our new houses :rotfl:

  • Good news! (Another) old complaint with a utilities provider we left during our whole relocation house moves seems to be close to a resolution so it looks as though we will be getting about £460 owed to us very soon, if not today! :j:j:j

  • Woke up all excited to check our account to see if the utilities refund had gone in, but was disappointed. Fingers crossed it will appear soon. Hopefully we will be nearing the £31k mark before the month is out.

Not much to report today. Housework and odd jobs to get done, I want to kick off half term with a clean slate!

Running out of store cupboard/freezer inspiration, might have to do a shop at some point today.

    Have a great Friday everyone!

I hadn't heard about house prices rising - that's fab news for us, esp for you meaning by to negative equity. We're lucky as we bought ours for a lower price than it was worth so I'm hoping for a decent profit meaning that will be the deposit for the farm.

This house, too, was our forever home lol. I do love it, everything about it, just it's got no land and I want my horses at home and lots of animals around but not in a cramped environment. There's something 20 mins from us just come for sale with 15 acres, school, 10 stables and a nice house....If only! Everything happens for a reason though I think, it's not my time yet.

Fingers crossed the refund gets posted by faster payment today and you can get it allocated before the week is out, meaning you can head sub 31k before Nov. Fingers crossed for you.

We think alike, DH is out tonight so I'm going to get the house sorted meaning I can start the weekend stress free and have a Sunday to myself for a change instead of running round like a you know what!

    Happy weekend!

  • Well, I guess long term house price predictions are about as reliable as a finger in the air but still, here's hoping!

Apparently the refund will take up to seven days, so a bit of a wait yet. Hopefully here by the end of the month but to be honest it's just a relief that it is on it's way after a whopping 2 years of complaints and ombudsman involvement.

Spent £40 this afternoon on things to amuse children over half term. Bit more than I wanted to spend but still probably cheaper than a fancy day out or a trip to the cinema on a rainy day!

Been doing a bit more research re what to do with the CC payment money once it is paid off and I think I have decided to get a mortgage offset account... will effectively be paying down the mortgage (kind of) but have the facility to withdraw the savings if we need to. Win win.

By paying £1k a month to the loan and putting everything else into the offset account we should still be unsecured debt free in 2016 (just... December!) but also have £14k in offset by then too, which is a good chunk of the negative equity. Grates a bit (ok, a lot) to be extending our DFD, but I think it is a more sensible, flexible approach and there's nothing to stop us changing our minds at any point. Plus, our mortgage is at a higher interest rate than the loan!

Feels good to have it settled in my mind! Just need to get DH on board with the plan now :)

I haven't any more work income expected this month so have updated my opening diary post with October figures in the hope that it tempts fate enough for the utilities refund to come through, forcing me re calculate it all! :rotfl:

    Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

  • Busy weekend spending time with friends and family and making the most of the nice weather!

Still no sign of the utilities refund so feeling a bit grumpy about that, and wondering whether it is going to arrive or not!

Not much else to report, having one of those days where clearing the debt is feeling a mammoth task. Still, the end of the month is days away so have a nice loan payment chunk to update my figures with soon, might spur me on a bit!

  • I alwasy find waiting for the big payments to come out is a pain, the days drag (and this is every month lol) so I feel your pain. It will all be worth it in the end tho.

Glad you enjoyed the weather - it's mild here today actually.

Fingers crossed the refund comes through quickly - pain in the rear!

  • Given how long we have been fighting to try and get the money back (about 2 years!) it was probably a bit naive of me to assume the refund was going to be paid just because they said it was going to be paid!

Not bad weather here today either. Have my fingers crossed for a dry week so that I can get the children out on lots of cheap walks and so on!
