I don't know what to do about my step daughter

my other half is stepdad to my daughter, i dont do anything regarding her without speaking to him about it first. He may not have been there when she was created but hes been there through everything else which in my eyes makes him more of a father than her 'real' dad who didnt see her for the 18 months..
i would never say oh your only her step dad so you dont get a word on what happens!
It very much depends at which age the step parent comes into the child's life and the involvement of the birth father. Problems usually arises when the step parent wants to take on a parental role that the step child refuse to accept. I'm not talking about rebellion that any teenager had with their own parent but when the respect for a parent isn't there something that can be gained in some cases but certainly not forced.0
