I agree that the fresh fruit and veg at Sainsbury's is far superior to Tesco, Asda, Aldi etc.
I also agree that it's much more pleasant to shop in a Sainsbury's than an Asda. I don't feel 'a cut above' I just feel more relaxed and less crowded than in an Asda.0 -
I think Sainsbury's has managed to pull-off a clever marketing trick. It has managed to pose as a Waitrose wanabe when, in reality, it is far closer to Tesco, minus the pricing scams.
minus ?!?As someone joked to me recently 'I like Sainsbury's. It keeps the riff-raff out of Waitrose'.0 -
For years I convinced myself that Waitrose essentials range was better quality than standard supermarket range (compared to the Co-op and Sainsbury). Then a new Asda opened new my workplace and I tried shopping there, I found their hummous and jam looked suspiciously familiar to me, and my world was shattered for ever. When it had happened with Lidl's waffle I thought it was a one off, but I think it's fairly clear that all supermarket brands are produced by the same small number of manufacturers and the rest is all due to marketing (and people's snobbery
).
My local S's is full of riff raff, not much different to the Asda I go to, but Waitrose is not what it used to be either. (unfortunately nobody can beat W's bread and pate', so I still have to pop in every now and again)
Oh, and I did a blind test with A's and S's organic olive oil and neither myself or my OH could tell the difference, that was rather annoying (but the price is the same, so no gain there, just not having to pop in at S's at all now).0 -

This. In spades.
Yes, some supermarkets might have slightly different flavours or recipes but the majority of own brand items for all are made in the same place.
Hardly a secret, a recent episode of Dispatches (I think) went undercover in a factory that made own brand naan breads and similar for most UK supermarkets.
How else are SMs going to make any money if they don't collate manufacturing?0 -

They do but to the specification of the individual Supermarket. Sainsburys Pies are made by the same firm who make Peter's brand pies.
I do work in logistics for Sainsburys and you should see the number of times a manufacturer sends us a wrong pallet and we end up with Tesco/Waitrose/M&S and hopefully not to often ASDA own brand stuff instead of ours.
We even had one consignment with Waitrose labels on the outside box and Sainsburys product in the box.
The answer is no we don't eat it we send it back.
Do I exclusivly buy in Sainsburys? No I buy the item I want at the best price available. If this is Morrison's so be it, if it is Sainsbury all well and good.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -
I don't go to Sainsburys now only if one of the local ethnic stores doesn't have what I need. The difference in the price of their fruit and vegetables and my local turkish shop is considerable. I also get my meat from my local turkish shop. The only things I tend to get are fish and blueberries as they are not sold in the local shops. However sometimes I walk to the local Morrisons I get my fish there as they are nearly always alot cheaper. Lidl is also quite good with their prices.0

Me and my wife use Sainsburys a lot, but many of my family have remarked that they think it's expensive.Live for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0

We don't have a Sainsburys anywhere near so rarely go there. My OH reckons their petrol stations are the only ones where you can pump up the car tyres for free. Most others charge 20p.0
