How expensive is sainsbury's??

We have a relatively small sainsbury's (proper store not express) nearby and I've only been in there once (and that was when it opened a few years back)

However I went in there today as I wanted to use up some giftcards I'd had before they expired and was gobsmacked at how expensive it was......no wonder it was quiet!

Does anyone else think Sainsbury's is expensive or am I just being a tightwad??/

I think it depends what you're buying and what you're comparing it with.


They do have their 'price promise' so it should work out at similar prices to Asda and Tesco but I'm always sceptical of these schemes.


I do use Sainsbury's but very selectively after I've dome 90% of my shop in Aldi.


This week, all I bought was wine (25% off offer), stock cubes (basic cheapo ones) and sausages (I like their low fat Cumberland ones). Everything else came from Aldi.

You should try our local Co-op, the prices are ridiculous.

I must admit I prefer to buy what we can't get in Aldi/Lidl from either Asda or Morrisons, but I was shocked at the prices of everything in Sainsbury's .....the branded things that I knew the price of were 10p or so dearer.

At that rate it will be another couple of years before I go back in!

Yes I find it expensive too, I find waitrose even a little cheaper on some things, but I do shop around a little too.

It can be but it depends on what you get, if you stick to their own brands and basics its not too bad. Theres no way I'd do a whole weeks shopping there, but you can get things there that you cant get at Aldis.
Their fruit and veg I've found to be better than Aldis but I get their value range.

Our local Sain$bur$s is not an express or metro store but is small and the prices seem to reflect this. Choice is limited and items that appear one day disappear the next. Its ok for the occasional offer and for odd buys but its not somewhere I do my main shop.

I recently received a voucher from Sainsbury's for £15 off my first online order of £60 or more. I found it hard work finding items that were not going to be dearer, in some cases much dearer, than what I would pay at ASDA and Tesco. There were a couple of worthwhile offers but Tesco price matches and ASDA price beats so without the voucher why would I order from Sainsbury's? Perhaps if I were buying fresh fruit and meat and thought that the produce would be of a better quality but tins and packets of well known brands will be the same quality wherever they are bought.

Sainsbury's only price matches in store and not for online orders. Minimum delivery charges are £1 from ASDA and Tesco for minimum £25 order. £2.99 with Sainsbury for a minimum of £40 order.

I couldn't fault the service I received with my first delivery from Sainsbury's but I cannot foresee a circumstance in which I would use it again.

You think Basics are cheap!

Salisbury's Basics are getting more expensive than the other supermarkets.

Their Basic muesli is now 2p more than the others.

Basic tinned rice is now 5p more than the others.

Basic tinned potatoes 5p more than the others,

Basic Uht milk now 14p more than the others.

That's just a very small handful.

Salisbury is definitely getting more expensive than the other supermarkets on Basics.

So much for their tag ' Living more for less' Rubbish.

It's down to personal preference in the end. Suppliers seem to rotate the special prices on branded products around the supermarkets. For branded goods I often buy I always check mysupermarket as it gives a summary of the price charged by the major supermarkets and Aldi, plus Boots and Superdrug. If there's a big saving to be had then that's where I buy, otherwise it's not worth the extra petrol or shoe leather.

Generally they are slightly more for branded goods (Asda is usually cheapest) but I find Sainsbury's ready meals and other own-brand stuff far better than Tesco or Asda.
