It always surprises me that Sainsbury's escapes the pig-piling Tesco's endures.

Last century it was understandable - but over the last decade they ought to have received just as much opprobrium.

Recently tried them as I had a £20 off for new customers and found most things, both brand and own brand more expensive.

For what I've bought, I'm not very impressed over the quality either and don't think it's as good as Tesco, portion sizes aren't as good either.

I have vouchers for £10 off plus free delivery on my next four shops but not going to bother.

One thing that can be said about Sainsbo's basics gear like Eggs or Tea bags is that it's free range / fair trade compared to value gear at Tesco/Asda.

Sainsbury's is a pet hate of mine these days (and it was once my main store). In the past few years their pricing policy seems to have been to ratchet the prices up every couple of visits - and that's right across the board.

I suspect they've benefited from a perceived market position between Waitrose and the 'common herd' but it's completely unjustified. They have been as badly implicated as most of the rest in the various adulteration scandals (anyone for horsemeat?), their meat is generally very poor anyway and their own brand products, though often praised, don't seem to me any better than anyone else's - and worse than some.

Particularly infuriating is the way you are handed reams of till spits, most of which expire in no time at all and which have all sorts of convenient exceptions.

People complain about Tesco's ethics - they should look more closely at Sainsbury's!

I've defected to Morrisons and Aldi and only rarely venture into Sainsbury's for the one or two items they sell and others don't.

You can get free range Tea bags? How does that work?:)

Sainsbury's organic veg reasonable price. ASDA cheaper but don't have much. Lidl cheap but again don't have much.

Sainsbury's weren't implicated in the horsemeat scandel http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/retailandconsumer/9939340/Sainsburys-sales-surge-following-horse-meat-crisis.html

Also I find that Sainsbury's generally use British chicken in everything whereas Tesco and Asda "hide" Thai chicken in some products such as spring rolls and other ready meals.

I think there own food is one of the best, although main brands can be a little more.

Interesting article in DM saying Aldi aren't always cheapest and sainsburys are cheapest for baby products

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/bills/article-2718734/Is-Aldi-really-cheapest-Exclusive-research-reveals-supermarket-really-offers-best-value.html

Personally I think its high time all supermarkets stopped BOGOF and just lowered prices on promotion etc. No false offers which Tesco were particularly bad for
