Debt has ended my relationship :(

Hi, are you settled back at your parents' house now? I hope you keep your diary going so that we can offer support and encouragement as you clear your loan, pay back your parents and get back on your feet both practically and emotionally.
Hugs, Satchmo x
Yeah I have the loan and have cleared my payday loans off! Have budgeted for payments to credit card etc from what is left of the loan and all being well will pay my parents back in full with my August pay. (will depend how much they pay me in August as I can never tell!)0 -
Hi San,
Great to hear you are managing and sounding a lot more optimistic0 -

Lost count of the people i've know with multiple CCJ's that simply drop off the credit file.
Yes they can be a bit awkward if you have assetts and money in the bank, but most people in debt don't.
Honestly, being up to your eye balls in debt isn't as bad as it sounds. People say the first thing you should do is speak to the people you owe money to when your finances are on the slippery slope, in my experience it's actually the complete opposite, ignoring them seems to be what works best.
I've had bad debt in the past and ignored it. I owed money to the HSBC who defaulted me. Looked on my credit file recently and it's gone aka i had free money :money:
Luckily i'm quite cash rich but having bad credit can be problematic. You get bank cards that hardly work anywhere0 -

I'll get my violin out.
Debts become statute barred after 5 years in Scotland and it's the Sheriff Court that awards judgements not a County Court as we don't have councils.0 -
OP, you certainly seem to be making some good progress. A couple of friends of mine are teachers and were travelling from Glasgow to Falkirk for work until they jacked it in and went to work overseas. They teach languages and history right enough so I'm not sure if that's an option for a PE teacher.
I also give YNAB the thumbs up. My income fluctuates too and I find that YNAB helps me keep on top of all my expenses, including the annual expenses such as a MOT.0 -

Whilst its true, sometimes if you ignore a DCA they will look for an easier target, but just lately people are been taken to court over debts of a few hundred quid, and getting CCJ`s.
Taking the money and deliberately not repaying should not become a lifestyle choice for anyone, sometimes it can be unavoidable, under certain circumstances, but you should not encourage it.

Thanks! I am not sure what other subject I would like to teach- love the freedom you get with PE but even long term (when I am too old for the wind and rain etc) another subject would be good.
Maybe consider teaching financial knowledge - how to manage money - I know its not a whole subject, but their must be training courses you could get on to learn about it more and maybe then you could teach it at several schools like peripatetics ?Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Hi San1.
I have just thread the entire thread and want to let you know how much I admire your strength and determination. You should feel so proud of yourself. I know you lost your OH and I'm sorry about that but you seem to be in a much better position now. Now you can look forward to building up your savings, looking for a place of your own and meeting someone new.
Best of luck to you and thank you for coming back and letting us know how you're doing. x0 -
