Really glad to hear you've started the ball rolling.
You can prob raise about £6k for your car, maybe that's a good way to go? You could just walk for a bit and then get a cheap car.
New job sounds great!! Just what you needed at the moment, thank your lucky star! Everything is going to be alright
Sending hugs
I will consider selling the car. I only started driving age 23 so coped commuting 1hour to uni every day and back. And I do enjoy running.0 -
Well done San - it sounds like you have averted the immediate crises :T
Now the panic stations have been stood down you need to commit to the changes you need to make for a better future...
For what it's worth here's my two penneth...
1) pay off the payday loans and never again!
2) let the ex have the tele - life is too short!
3) Give your parents their money back ASAP (either in one go or a set amount each month that ensures they are repaid in time.
4) do a statement of affairs and see how much you need to earn to meet your commitments including debt/ paying your folks back and some rent/ split bills or get them some groceries each week - whatever is appropriate in your family (if you cannot meet your commitments then you will know if you need to sell your car and pay off your finance)
5) read and learn about the YNAB approach (you need a budget). Try the free trial software -if you love it it could transform your attitude to spending & saving...you won't want to buy a £140 wedding outfit if you can buy a £60 one and save £80 to your "holiday fund" or even borrow the outfit and save the whole £140 :rotfl:
Good luck....you can do it!
tlc, will complete the SOA and have a look at YNAB. I am not very good at setting and sticking to budgets so some help might make it easier for me to get control of money. I will give my parents their money back on my payday (will help me to keep an extra extra tight grip on spending and raise some cash through selling stuff)0 -

Re: the TV. This is a tricky one. How much was it when you bought it and how much is the ex offering? Depending on these two answers, I'd be tempted to take the money he is offering. After all, you need the money, let's face it.
Have you heard of swag bucks.com? I've just started and have over 1000 points so far, it's pretty easy to sit and do and can buy Paypal gift cards with it.
Thanks, I will take a look. I think the TV was £279 around about Christmas time. He never offered an amount, just said that he would pay me something for it if I didn't mind him taking it to his new place.0 -
Hopefully everything works out for you. Debt can be horrible to deal with which is why these forums are so good!
My OH and I are both in debt with fairly large amounts but as a couple you need to work through it together. I think this site has such good advice for consolidation loans to make it more manageable and a calaculator to work out what is going on and what can be cut down on.
You'll be amazed what you can cut down on with things like Sky TV being one people refuse to let go of!0 -

Congrats on realising you have an issue and doing sensible things to resolve the issues. Sorry to hear about your relationship break up though.
If you do decide to try out YNAB I highly suggest you find time to attend some of their free classes especially the one Dealing with Different Pay Cycles as it will specifically show you what to do when your income goes up and down like yours does and how to manage it. The class I attended had someone that was a teacher like you and didn't get paid over the summer so they showed her how to try and build a buffer so there was money available still when she wasn't working.Starting Mortgage Balance: £264,800 (8th Aug 2014)
Current Mortgage Balance: £269,750 (18th April 2016)0 -
I don't think your debts are huge- even with your earning ups and downs due to not being able to find permanant work. I wouldn't suggest a DMP unless you have no choice because of the effect it has on your credit rating.
Is there no other work at all that you can find? Do you have a back up subject to with PE?0 -
If you have any maths or physics knowledge - a sports science degree contains a fair bit , you could do a subject knowledge enhancement course and trin to teach one of these shortage subjects , The courses can be done on line.
You would easily pickup extra work if you could cover either of these subjects. You can also do them in languages. Search subject knowledge enhancement course - there are some for those just entereing training but also some for experienced teachers.0 -

Hmmm do those work in Scotland too?0 -

Sadly PE is my only subject. I will look around for other work outside of teaching!0
