Mum is not happy:sad: - awful lot of money for a room- if you don't get on you'll be stuck in your room on your ownsome.

Well, not really a room, more of a "full share of one room", "No share of another room" and "half-share of the rest of the house."

I live on my own, so if I don't get on, I can be stuck in a whole house...

You could be doing that here :rotfl:

Ah, but then the parents talk to you like you were their kid or something...

Suggest a 3 month contract and then if its working out you could agree a longer one- why am I the last to know??

Because any scheme needs to be checked against friends as a sanity check. It would be embarassing to be presenting anything that was hare-brained wouldn't it?

    You're wasting nobody's time.

    What's up?

CAFCGIRL__So sorry for the embarassmeent I have caused you here-yes ZTD is correct- but I am a muma and you always worry about your children- even when they are perfect (ly) capable of running their own lives, and making sensible, competant decisions- trust me I know- my own mother still worries about me, now that is embarassing:rotfl: But its only because we care deeply and would try to do anything to help- sometimes emotions get in the way..........
Are those shopping bags you're carrying really bags of debt???

Well.... it's nice to know my mumma still cares.... all done and dusted and the world is at rights again!

    Update!
I'm going round again on sunday to pay my deposit, and collect a key, so we've both got some security there. I also sent her the links (thanks Oberson and PAP) to contracts so we're gonna both have something in that respect!

Now I've just got to get on and start tying ends up from here, like cancelling contracts, giving notices etc. So that'll be my day off done!
Also going to start going through drawers etc, and seeing what I can ebay, donate. Figured I'd go room by room....

Any top tips on how to downsize are much appreciated!!

  • If you are thinking this may be a shortish term move, maybe you should look into storage companies?

Good luck with everything! I am in a similar position to your landlady and I wish I had been in the right area to offer you a room. I really enjoy having a tenant, my flat mate is really nice and its more of a flat share than rent a room. Being a veggie we dont tend to cook together but its nice having him about and watching tv and having a general moan together.

I hope you are ploughing on with your photography. Have you thought about seeing if there are some photography comps you could enter to keep yourself focused with it?

Oh Shiney, lots of good ideas there.

My mum (bless her) did find a storage firm, and they offered £60 a month to store whatever it was my mum listed, sofa, chest of drawers, boxes etc.
However £60 per month for 12 months (my personal minimum renting this room) is more than what I paid for the stuff in the first place, and I'm not exactly attached to much of it, apart from my bed... will see what I can work out in relation to flatpacking some of it (god bless Ikea), and that way it'll be much easier to store somewhere...

What you described with your tenant is exactly the arrangement she and I were both looking to go into, so that'll be nice to have some social contact thats not just work and the fella...

Onward and upward. Have just started making an effort to clean the kitchen in the hope that when i move, it'll be more of a wipe over job... had better start collecting some boxes too I guess!
