in the 1.4 and 1.8 turbo supercharged engines they seem to like causing piston issues. there was thread on here not long ago about VAG not honoring a warranty issue for engine failure. the failire is similar to the BXE issues.

the 1.2,1.4, 1.8 non supercharged TSI engines are absolutely fine

Basically because they are French, and the "experts" tend to think they will all have dodgy electrics especially, like you I have had several Citroens with no problems, if you go to France especially there are loads of old Peugeots still running around, so they can't be that bad!

I haven't read anything about dodgy electrics? I had a 106 and thought it was a great car other than the crap seats and the naff heater. 206 however was a boat on wheels and looked pretty ugly as well.

I guess it depends if ultimate perceived better reliability is higher on your list than price, dynamics, etc.

Modern Peugeots and dynamics in the same thought?

Hmmm. "Stodgy mess", was my view of the old 308.

I would put Mazda quite a way above Pug for driver involvement.

VAG cars are 'okay', but still nowhere near the typical Ford... and Honda/Toyota are a lot better in this regard than they used to be, not much different to VAG.

Sorry, please refer back to the first post, why do people not read?
My choice is between these 2 cars only, have already narrowed it down to these from a multitude of others.
    Other suggestions will be ignored.

But we're not talking about the old 308 are we?

The new 308 just won European Car of the Year. It didnt win that for nothing.

Golf and Focus would be top of the group. Focus better driving involvement, Golf better quality.

Current Civic is only average. No class leader. Same with the usual dull-but-worthy Toyota offerings.
