I know there are other threads on other boards on this topic but was interested to hear peoples views from a Norn Iron perspective and how it might effect us "IF" on the day Scotland vote YES !!
As we have such close links with Scotland in many areas from family, work, supply of goods, energy etc..... Do you think it will have any knock on effects on us on things such as??
Block Grant from Westminster,
Shipping of goods ordered from rUK,
Access to Universities and other third level education,
Energy Prices (i.e there is an interconnector between here and Scotland)
Travel.... Will we need a passport to take the boat to Scotland?
etc. etc.

Never underestimate things like this vote. Problem with this type of Vote is the "Moderate" No voters or those that don't really care either way assume there is no chance of a yes vote so don't bother to vote... on the other hand then ALL of the Yes Voters turn out and then............ Shock Horror......... Next thing you know the Yes Vote scrapes through on a 40% turnout !!0 -
Every poll they have done recently have shown that the majority of Scotland are in the no camp.
I know in Orkney they hate Alex Salmond and people in Glasgow don't think much of him either.
It is a bit of a worry for me as my mum lives in Inverness and my brother Glasgow so I'm concered that IF it goes to a yes vote I will have to pay extra to call them like if I call my friend in Southern Ireland if so I won't be able to speak to them as much as I do now
I'm sure it will be fine but it is a little bit un-nervingFirst Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
Well, all right - cue mass panic and demands for a replay.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0

I think it will be a lot closer than many think. The existing government seem hell bent on alienating. Can't use Sterling, will block EU membership, economic basket case argument etc.
If Scotland were to vote YES then we would be left with a country where in the Conservatives would almost certainly be assured a majority for the foreseeable future. A very EU skeptical Conservative Party with its free market mantra could have very profound effects on a percentage of opinion in NI. In such a scenario a referendum for a United Ireland may just succeed.[STRIKE]Less is more.[/STRIKE] No less is Less.0 -

There'll be a gap in the market for an Orkney Nationalist Party. Possibly a South Ronaldsay Freedom Movement as well.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -
How big is the block grant we get from Westminster and what is it spent on?0

The Scots. I had to smile at this. The most significant vote in 90 years reduced to concern over phone bills.
It's all true, folks - America's wealthiest ethnic group, thanks to not spending.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -

Since nothing else, including 30 years of troubles, has ever had any effect on a percentage of opinion, never mind a profound one, this wouldn't either.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0
