Looking at the conversation about debts, we had one of those phone calls yesterday and I thought if I actually spoke to them this time I might be able to persuade them to go away. First question do you have any credit card debts - no, pay them off each month, second question do you have any outstanding loans - no, third question do you want to remortgage, so I thought I would play, said yes if you can get us a good rate. Started taking my details (not given accurately), got down to how much we owe, guessed at around £8,000. It went very quiet. I said now that you have that information will you please stop calling. They put the phone down at the other end.
We always pay off the credit cards every month now, had trouble before but not going that way again, we got close to losing the house (very close, within a fortnight!). So now if we can't afford something we don't have it. It's amazing how many of those companies simply do not believe that you have no credit card debts/loans etc, they expect everyone to be in trouble!
On that note, the sun has come out now
We nearly lost our house many years ago. I think we got down to 4 or 5 months in arrears and I can remember avoiding the phone calls from barclaycard about my credit card arrears (I remember picking the phone up to one and not saying anything and the voice back said 'you're gonna have to speak to us sooner or later')
I suppose those memories are the ones that scare me back onto the straight and narrow
We learn from our experiences, that makes us who we areHistoric Debt August 2009 = £63,600 10th March 2017 = £0 100% paid all gone!
Mortgage started June 2015 = £170,000 January 2022 = £134,000
Saving for Xmas 2022= . . Amazon £55
If you focus on what you have left behind, you won't see what lies ahead - Gusteau0 -

Good on ya. A good healthy dose of fear of debt ain't a bad thing. Willy nilly spending gets no one anywhere.
