Did the garage you took the car to have access to a courtesy car? They are supposed to repair it in a 'reasonable' time. I know 'reasonable' is a piece of string term......
Am I right in thinking they took several days to even look at it and diagnose the problem? I honestly think you need to get tough with them Cheery. Ask if they have a courtesy car you can use, tell them firmly that you think they have had your car long enough to diagnose the problem and at least be well on the way to sorting it and that it is now costing you a substantial amount.
Don't take this the wrong way (I'm trying to help) but if they know you will 'wait' they won't be in such a hurry to get you sorted. I know not everyone finds it easy being tough......but they are taking the Pee!!
Maybe a call to Citizens Advice helpline will help? They'll better advise what's reasonable regarding timescales. Good Luck
thanks fc :) there was nobody in the repairs section on saturday afternoon last week when my car broke down so it was arranged for AA to drop my car off & leave key with sales dept. they phoned me last monday morning to say they were really busy & hoped to look at my car midweek said no compression so had to confirm i wanted them to continue. i then didn't hear anything until i phoned saturday morning to get an update & got told it was pencilled in for monday/tuesday but they didn't do anything further until last night/this morning  i told him today that i had hired a car to use while it was there as i have 2 autistic children but he never offered me a courtesy car? i've spent £260 on hiring a car for 2 weeks already & only have the car until monday lunch time so they need to have sorted by then!!

Yes, that could be a possibility. All Ive ever used it for is in a fruit salad :o this is the first year my plants have produced fruit. I am amazed at the amount of it!!

Thanks QOC for the freezing juice info  I'm so hopeless with food. The bit between leaving the garden and reaching my dinner plate is not my department :rotfl::rotfl:

They won't offer you a courtesy car if they can avoid it. It might be a bit late now but something to bear in mind for the future. ASK....the worst thing they can say is no. I'd be leaning on them if I was you. If you feel up to it, be cheeky and ask if they are prepared to pay for your courtesy car seeing as the repair has taken so long. After all, they had the option to turn you away if they were busy.
It might also be worth looking at your breakdown cover to see how much more you'd pay for a package that includes a courtesy car? It won't help your situation now but might help avoid extra cost in the future.
