I need to know about my NCB because I am driving hubby's car since mine got wrote off in 2007,but I never lost my NCB because I wasn't at fault.
I contacted Saga, who were my insurers for my written off motor and was told that although I have been driving 3 years and she told me that I don't have any NCB anymore!
How can this be right?
She refused to access my file to help and now I'm wondering if I am driving legally.!
All this because the it will be cheaper for me to insure our car than for hubby who is 73.
Can anyone enlighten me please.
Thanks in advance.
Unless you've held insurance in your own name since 2007 then you no longer have any NCB. It only lasts 2 years (with the vast majority of insurers).
You don't usually build up transferrable NCB as a named driver.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair0 -
A letter from your previous insurer or sometimes, they will often offer to contact your previous insurer on your behalf.
I get every year my insurance is due to end, a letter stating 'you have XX amount of years no claims, protected)
That letter is what you need to keep hold of
Hope that answers your question0 -

Be very wary of Saga Motor Insurance. I switched to Saga 4 years ago when I had built up 6 years of NCD (I have the letter from my last non-Saga Insurance company). I applied online via the Saga web site where the only options were to select "1", "2", "3", or "4 or more" years. I selected "4 or more" years.
For the next 3 years the premiums from Saga were very competitive, but this year the basic premium has suddenly increased by 44% and the total premium (incl. NCD protection) by 41%, so I started looking elsewhere.
I thought I would now have 10 years of NCD, but when I asked Saga they said I only had 8 years - the 4 from my web application and the 4 more years I have been with them.
Saga have agreed to send me a letter stating the 8 years NCD so that I can transfer my NCD to another company, but I am also endeavouring to get them to agree to say I have the 10 years I really have.
Part of the problem with Saga Motor Insurance is that they do not state how many years NCD you have on the renewal notice.
If you have Saga Motor Insurance you should check how many years NCD they have on record for you.
In addition, in 2009 Saga Motor Insurance offered a price guarantee stating that if you found equivalent cover to the Saga policy they would beat the price. It now appears they no longer offer this, so they may well be losing my custom as I have found many other companies offering the same for significantly less - some also offering cashback so I will end up paying less overall with a new company than I paid Saga last year.0 -
I have been told by my insurance agency "One Call Insurance" that because my last insurance company "Privilege Insurance" have lost my No Claims Bonus (NCB) then I will have to pay another £240 on top of the £350 that I have already paid.
This is the only time this has ever happened to me and I am at a loss to see how I can get round this scan. I say scam because the only proof that I have no claims bonus was sent in to the last insurance agency to prove that I over five years NCB. There is no mention of NCB on any other policy that I have, but, obviously the actual cost of purchase (at the time £189 for the year) must imply or prove to a insurance company that I had that amount of cover. I have tried to explain the cost of the last insurance, but, this was totally ignored. The irritating thing is that they get this money for doing absolutely nothing - I have claimed once in the last 35 years.
I must admit that the replies given on this site do me much hope of solving this rip off. I would urge people to send in good copies of the proof of NCB and keep the original to themselves, somewhere safe.0 -
There is always the Data Protection Act whereby you ask the company holding information about you to provide that information - check the ICO website but I think a request is called a subject access request or something similar. They have to provide you with the information.0

If it was anything less than maximum no claims bonus, the renewal notice / proof of no claims bonus would state something along the lines of "Three years protected no claims bonus". Protecting anything less than maximum no claims bonus is relatively rare
For maximum protected no claims bonus, many insurers simply state "Protected No claims bonus". This is accepted as proof of (The original Insurers) maximum no claims bonus by some insurers. The accepting Insurers often have a note of other Insurers no claims bonus scale0 -

Well, you've obviously not looked very hard. I've used Direct Line on multiple cars over the last 3 years and the level of NCD has always been clearly stated not the renewal notice. In fact I've just moved one car from Direct Line to a different company and used the renewal quote as proof.0 -

And yet another ressurection thread, well it is easter after all.
yes JQ, you are correct. Probably because my own NCB has always read "max ncb over 5 years" (touch wood), I'd never noticed it;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0
