Well I guess that makes me a negligent parent too, as I leave my son in the car asleep WITH THE WINDOWS OPEN AND NOT ON HOT DAYS.

The car is on the drive, 2m from the OPEN front door, and I can also see him from the window.

There seems to be a lot of judgemental and clearly perfect parents on this thread. The op was after some helpful advice. If you have nothing helpful to add, don't post.

OP, could you not just use a normal one with an extension cable?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Obviously going out on a limb here, but I have left my 2 when babies in their car seats asleep. On the drive right up towards the garage at the back NOT in recent weather temperatures yet still with with windows and maybe the doors open. I use the common sense I was born with.

I'm trying not to judge and see myself in the OP's position. However... must admit I'm failing a wee bit. Regardless of how safe your area and neighbours are, all it takes is one person with bad intent wandering in your area looking for mischief.

I can understand not wanting to wake your wee one if they don't sleep well. Perhaps the advice of others re sitting in the car yourself with a book or having a device that you can transfer from car to house without taking your child out is the best bet.

Not trying to scare monger but the best monitor in the world will not stop a random bad person causing mischief if they wanted to. I think other alternatives are your best bet.

Just a coincidence that this thread was started the same day this article appeared in the paper?

Leaving aside the hysterics, I grew up in a tropical country and we were left in cars all the time when we had fallen asleep during the journey rather than unsettling us. All it takes is a little common sense to park in the shade, leave the windows slightly open and to keep checking constantly in case we woke up and got upset to be left on our own. Obviously not in a public area but perfectly acceptable in someone's drive for example.

    That's debatable.

It's not common as I've never known anyone to do this and I wouldn't with my daughter. Most people go on a long and unnecessary drive or stay in the car with a book. There's too many risks, even though you can mitigate them, and it looks terrible to other people if something should happen as it's controversial. Look at how Madeleine McCann's parents were treated when she went missing. Many people were intent on criticising their judgement on leaving their children even though they were asleep, nearby, and regularly checked. What happened to her is rare but people are quick to blame the parents.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

Just because the replies disagree with the OP, doesn't mean the intentions aren't helpful. Helpful can mean pointing out the risks of a situation, rather than supporting it.
  • I'm a long time lurker logging on for first time in years

    - baby falls asleep in buggy unexpectedly when out
    - baby falls asleep in someone else's house
    -camping
    -Power cut

All excellent reasons for a light weight portable baby monitor, where putting some monitor beside baby is always possible and won't wake her with plugging in noise etc.

I get one chance a day for a nap for my baby and moving would wake her. This would be excellent.

Before I get on dragons den, ill check out the ikea one. 35 quid down from 60 with ikea family - very mse!!

I bet you wouldn't dream of walking away and leaving your laptop or purse sitting in the car in full view would you.

I would never leave a small child unsupervised in a car, hot or otherwise. There are far too many risks involved before we even consider temperature.
