What laptop do you have now? Brand name and model number?

Acer Aspire 5735Z bought on the Italian market with Vista.. I use an external keyboard as the laptop one has problems, and in spite of removal of obsolete programs, defragging, CCcleaning etc it's getting slow. I tried a couple of times to do a full back-up to an external HDD which caused it to throw a severe wobbly - thought it had gone completely at one point..although eventually managed to do restores.

I keep things for ages, but I'd prefer to relegate this to a back-up and maybe even use to play with Linux (but probably won't :D)..

    Cheers.

You can install Vista in English without issue by using an English ACER recovery disc.

    I've sent you a PM.

You can replace the keyboard with the help of this guide

Keyboard example for £13.89 or less.

I'm glad that you did not need to pay extra for the Windows 7 install. :)

in all fairness, there was a vista business coa on the case that I could have used, but..... ;)

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

This Medion Akoya E4059 is a decent unit for £249.99, if it is within your budget.

It has a decent CPU Benchmark and contains everything that you are likely to need, including wireless capability.

What do you think of the Tower in post #37? Too big?

Well I was unsure of which way to go, but that seems to tick all the boxes for a good price.
One thing that confuses me is that it's listed under "cheapest electricals" but there is an option to get it delivered to the nearest Argos store, so who is actually the seller?

sorry to hi jack but what is an "all in one" compared to a normal desktop pc comprising of tower, keyboard and mouse and monitor?
Spending my time reading how to fix PC's,instead of looking at Facebook.
  • Hey onejontwo

I've just read through all the replies and I think you would be better off with a chromebox (small 5"x5" box) with a separate monitor and keyboard.

    OR...

The new LG Chromebase, basically an all in one pc which takes up hardly ant space. Literally a monitor with a built-in chromebox. Paired with bluetooth mouse and keyboard and you've got a very neat and tidy set up.

Considering you browse and email, sounds like you dont have a need for a traditional pc (or mac). It comes with a decent office package via google docs or if you absolutely need Microsoft office, you can use the cloud version Office 365.

As for trying to upgrade modern PC's, don't even entertain the idea, upgrading pc's is becoming a thing of the past. Why buy a new CPU, RAM, Motherboard for the price of a new PC!??

Laptop Vs Desktop is a lifestyle decision, price shouldn't come into it. Desktop really just offers you a bigger screen at the end of the day.
