Are all in one PC's any good?

    I got a Samsung all in one PC July last year (700 series I think - not sure cos I'm on works laptop). Its mega awesome, fantastic. It replaced our old desktop which was running XP. The Samsung is windows 8, touchscreen, does everything the desktop does, not had any issues with it, and couldn't be happier.

    We got it because my OH wanted a laptop, but she saw this and fell in love (apparently). The best thing is that the whole think is about the size of a small TV (23 inch screen). We have it on the kitchen table when in use, and when we need the kitchen table, I just pick it up and put it in the living room (after unplugging obviously). I found Win8 a bit odd at first, but I use the desktop screen mostly anyway, but the other half likes the Win 8 front screen. Not sure that's relevant to what pC you have, but I think i'd hate it if it wasn't touchscreen. We paid around £650 for it, with cashback and vouchers etc. from Currys which was the cheapest at the time.

    I don't work for or have any particular allegiance to Samsung but would really recommend their all in one touchscreen PC's - I got an LG tv cos Samsung TV's aren't as good as their PC's (IMO).

    We know they can be convenient. The issues relate to cost and servicing.

    They're fine until they need repairing or upgrading.

    Did you actually spend £50-ish on Windows 7 or is that just for the benefit of the OP? :)
    What Tower did you purchase?
    Got one almost exactly the same spec as this delivered for £50:-

    I already had a spare W7 hanging around, but if you were to buy it...

    If the OP is considering an All In One, then it appears that they are also considering a monitor...unless they are considering a connection to an existing HDMI equipped TV.

    If the OP 'doesn't want to spend much, there is the ZooStorm 7260-8000 for £160 which can be coupled with a suitable monitor.
    Not to say that it would be my choice, but to illustrate what is available.

    From the op, it seemed they had monitor/kbd/mouse, and just wanted new tower. That zoostorm is well worth considering on a budget, but personally I'd prefer W7, as did my parents after seeing W7 and W8 side-by-side :)

    I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

    I just rebuilt my PC by replacing;

    + Motherboard
    + CPU
    + RAM

    Now I did go a bit OTT and add in a new power supply, water cooling and 2 extra fans, but this is only because it's for my music studio and has to be super fast and solid.

    I used this company for the parts;

    I'm not one to shop around for the last penny off, for me the overall offering in terms of service, back-up, reliability and plain old customer service are just as important as shaving off a few quid.

    I went for 64 bit and latest windows 8

    I went for pretty high spec guts and still did it all for under £700.

    But you will need to be able to rebuild yourself otherwise you might have to pay someone. Sometimes a small local supplier can offer to do the work for you.

    I did not need to upgrade my graphics card.

    What has this to do with anything on this thread??

    What _would_ be your choice?:) I always appreciate your contributions here. Moved back from abroad with an old laptop with OS in another language but now looking for a desk top and monitor and out of touch with makes of PCs and recommended monitors. It doesn't have to be touch screen - why would I stretch across my desk?? I'd prefer a tower as in the longer run I'd be happy to upgrade with more RAM, or an SSD or sound card -sort of things which I've done in the distant past.

    I'm glad that you did not need to pay extra for the Windows 7 install. :)

    My views are changing each time I come back to this thread, basically I have all the set up ie. mouse , monitor etc. but after browsing in Currys for something else entirely, I noticed the "all in ones" and thought what a good idea, but after getting views on here and the novelty of an "all in one" wearing off, I suppose a tower would be more suitable, cheaper, better value for money, easier to repair and easier for the wife to use as my daughter has a laptop and my wife hates it as she likes to sit at a desk and type on the keyboard the old fashioned way. As explained the PC works fine but as it's 12 years old running an obsolete XP programme, and I'm on 152 mb broadband as part of my virgin package, then rather than spending money upgrading an old machine I thought this was the way to go.

    What laptop do you have now? Brand name and model number?

    Does this twelve year old machine have any identifying features?
