It can be done, but it is far from easy to do and will probably mean going through a broker to get cover.
I had to do this last year in order to allow me to drive my neighbours car. (they had no policy as the vehicle was sorned and they wanted me to drive it to deliver to their son).
None of the main online insurers were interested as I wasn't the registered owner or keeper and although they stated that they can provide cover like this for family members, they won't do so for non relatives.
I finally got temporary cover via a broker.
I can see why it can cause problems.
Amongst other problems, If the car was damaged or written off, who would they pay out to?0 -
Are you allowed to recover a car from impound with temp car cover?
Surely they wouldn't allow day cover, since it'll be uninsured the next day (and was more than likely impounded for being used without insurance).0
