If you have your license revoked........

If the OP has his own insurance for the car, then whether a new policy blocks it being used to get the car out is not the issue. The OP can use his insurance for that.
The problem, of course, is that the OP can't then drive the car home. Somebody else needs to. And, for that, their "Other cars" clause should be perfectly adequate, since they aren't using it to get the car freed.
The OP can't release it himself as he doesn't have a licence. He can get a mate who does have a licence to release it, but that mate will need insurance which covers its release, whether it be as a named driver on the OP's policy, a new policy which he's just taken out, or a rare policy whose DOC extension doesn't exclude the release of seized vehicles.0 -

It probably won't be that simple.
The chances are that the employees at the compound holding the car won't let the OP retrieve the car as they will probably have been made aware of the fact that they don't currently have a valid driving licence, hence they can't legally drive it out of the compound and on to the highway.0 -
He'd have to produce or proof the existence of the license, so he'd need someone else to collect it, and that other person would need to have suitable cover to allow it to be driven and released from impound (i.e. probably not DOC). A named driver on the insurance policy or a policy in their own name are the most obvious.0

So is the solution to get someone to start a whole new policy in their name and then cancel in the 14day cooling off period?0

You go and buy day insurance for a specific day. Available on the web, but fill in the forms accurately as there are several specific restrictions that can make it invalid if it is not followed - like you have to take it out for the same address as your driving licence.0 -

Id guess there wont be that much difference in ones days insurance and the 14days, both expensive and inconvienent, they dont make it easy.0 -

Are you allowed to recover a car from impound with temp car cover?
Surely they wouldn't allow day cover, since it'll be uninsured the next day (and was more than likely impounded for being used without insurance).0
