If you have your license revoked........

Can you have a policy without a licence to drive?.0
-
is that a no? need answers if poss, not what I presume is a rhetorical question
A policeman has suggested I do this in order for my car to be released from a compound as my license renewal hasn't been processed yet.0 -
So you've been driving with no licence and no insurance and you've been caught and had your car quite rightly seized - is that the case?
I'd say your options are likely to be 1) get someone else to insure themselves on the car and then get it back (long as they have a licence) or 2) wait till you get your licence back, get some insurance and then get the car back - you'll pay no end of money on daily storage fees though I imagine.0 -
I would certainly think that as soon as you tell your insurers that your licence has been revoked, they will cancel your policy.
You have told them haven't you?
One question on every application I've seen always asks if you hold a full UK licence, and if not, what type do you hold.0 -
yes, unknowingly driving without a valid license I might add- for 4 days.
The officer has given me 7 days which isn't enough time to have got my license renewed. I've spoken to him and he says he cannot extend this period and therefore he advised me to add a driver to my insurance policy so someone can come with me to get my car, otherwise it will be scrapped.
I wanted to know whether he's giving me advice which is illegal.0 -
p.s- I have insurance, always have done. The license was revoked because I didn't respond in time to penalty points.......a mistake of course, but not a deliberate act of criminality.0
-
I seriously doubt the officer is giving you illegal advice.
Has he reported you for the offence yet, or do you have a producer to go in with - hence the 7 days?
I'm afraid your options are limited by the sounds of it, I only see the 2 options in my post above as possibilities.
Out of interest - why has your licence been revoked and how is it you didn't know? Do you believe there's been some sort of mistake?0 -
no mistake, a stupid oversight on my part- I had penalty points and I forgot to send my license away. I fully deserve the reprocussions but just wanted to add that I had been driving illegally for 4 days, it wasn't as if I had been doing it for months on end thinking I've got away with it.
I hope he's giving me accurate info, but the original response appeared to share my concern. I have a voicemail and he clearly suggests I do that- so I wondered whether that was legal.
It was made clear to me that this was not a punishment- that will follow.....my issue is that I have done everything possible to rectify the situation but 7 days simply isn't long enough- I was concerned the alternative the officer has offered is illegal.0 -
The offence has been reported- that will follow. Right now, I am simply trying to get my car back before it's scrapped. That will happen tomorrow apparently unless I can find someone to come to Newcastle with me and add them to my insurance policy as a named driver.0

How it affects your insurance depends n the terms and conditions of your own policy, but most (not all) policies apply provided you "hold, or have held and are not disqualified from holding, a valid licence", Or a similar form of words. You have held a licence and you're not disqualified from loading one, so if that's the wording in your certificate your insurance would be unaffected. I can't think of any reason why you wouldn't be able to add an additional driver to your policy, though that's a question which ultimately you'd have to ask your insurance company.0
