Lets look into the magic crystal ball..... No sorry the mists wont clear so looks like I can't tell you if they are going to issue contactless cards this year.

They have been saying for years that they will do them, but it never seems to actually happen.

I don't understand why they've taken so long. Visa Europe, MasterCard and Amex has made it really easy for issuers to issue contactless cards.

Possibly Natiowides payment system isn't designed to recognise contactless as a payment processing option. Could also be something to do with the costs of installing it.

Also they may not be prepared to accept the security risks and costs if someone claims they didn't make a contactless payments.

Did a quick search for "contactless cards" on their website and found this:

"We're pleased to announce that we've listened again to our members and contactless cards are now being issued for customers who're using our FlexPlus and FlexDirect accounts. They're being sent to anyone requesting a replacement card or when your card expires. All new FlexPlus and FlexDirect account customers will be supplied with a contactless card. We'll let you know when this service also becomes available to FlexAccount customers."

I have just opened a FlexDirect account, the PIN arrived today so hopefully the card won't be far behind, when it arrives I will confirm whether it is contactless or not.

Yes they are now offering contactless, I just opened flex plus today which was accepted instantly but strangely about 10 minutes later, I received a call from them saying they just want to confirm some of my details which i do. I just hope they dont change their mind.

I rarely ever use debit cards for my spending and I won't be changing that. So it's a shame they still haven't gone contactless on their Select CC. One good way to lose customers, I suppose. I am going to use my Barclays VISA (same cashback % as NW Select) and Barclays Amex (1% cashback) instead.

I know it all adds up but given the low value of contactless payments you'd have to be doing a lot to make much from cashback - personally I either use cash or put my Santander 123 Mastercard in a C&P device.

    FINALLY :T :T :T

From yesterday, they appeared on their system, if you call up and ask to order a contactless card they can order one for you and mark you current card damaged so you'll still be able to use it i the meantime, they'll take 5 - 7 days to arrive. Just ordered mine.

As Mr Silk says if you give them a call and request a contactless card they do mark your current card as damaged and will order you a new one with the contactless feature.

Finally after all these years Nationwide are catching up with everyone else.
