As Mr Silk says if you give them a call and request a contactless card they do mark your current card as damaged and will order you a new one with the contactless feature.

Finally after all these years Nationwide are catching up with everyone else.

The poor girl I spoke to had only just come back from holiday and wasn't even aware that they started contactless! All they need to do not is add contactless to their credit cards and I think they have caught up with the other mainstream banks

Well, I have just received my newly issued FlexDirect card, and it is not contactless, so their publicity is wrong. Doesn't matter to me as I'm only using the account for the interest so I don't expect to ever use the card at all, but if you want contactless you may have to ask for a replacement to be issued.

Their contactless card started just yesterday i think, because even on Tuesday while i was looking at the account overview on their website, they were not contactless.

NW just updated their website yesterday to reflex contactless.
so if your card was issued before yesterday it will not be contactless.

Though I am not 100% sure

I know it all adds up but given the low value of contactless payments you'd have to be doing a lot to make much from cashback - personally I either use cash or put my Santander 123 Mastercard in a C&P device.

It's not about the cashback - - I just do all my spending on CC or cash so I don't have to keep a constant record of my current account balance. When it comes to paying off my CCs every month, I can do a one-off move-about of funds if required.

In that case is the lack of contactless really an issue, for low value transactions either pay by cash or C&P. I'm the same as you, I rarely use my debit card to pay for things (except for online when there's a CC charge) and I have yet to use contactless at all.

Yes, that's probably what's happened, as the PIN arrived yesterday I expect the card was actually issued a day or two earlier.

Might be lucky, usually the card is sent out after the PIN and arrives generally 3-4 working days after.

Just ordered contactless debit cards for my accounts today from customer service. Let's hope they are as good as the hype.

I'm not one to think that C&P is a great inconvenience, and wouldn't change cards because one card didn't have it, but I hardly ever pay with cash especially for low value transactions because that means I have to carry change around.

The features of card (cashback mainly) are more important to me than whether it has contactless. I guess in AchiBald's case, where the cashback is the same on two cards but only one has contactless, he's free to choose the contactless.

I don't really get the hype if I'm honest. It's not that much faster than putting 4 numbers in, and I always spend few seconds time I've saved as extra time waiting for the coffee or packing bags in M&S. Plus, some people have had issues (not putting the card in the right place on the machine, card reader saying 'declined' but the Co-op assistant saying it's gone through and letting you walk out the shop).

But on occasion it does make people feel special. A little wizardry never hurt anyone, and it can make you feel like Harry Potter. If you want, you can whisper 'Payaramious' when you use it for the first time. Not so loud so that Muggles can hear, mind.
