Money Moral Dilemma: Should I report my fare-dodging colleague?

What if the station he boards has not ticket machine and neither does the one he gets off at? Do you expect him to actively find the conductor to pay him? Surely not. I have gone to work on the odd occasion in a similar circumstance. ...0

...., so clearly it was profitable for them to be there and get the cash off people.
In practice, they may not do so if they are too busy or unable to gather the required evidence, so they may instead charge a full fare, or penalty fare (as applicable) which is a charge made made for an honest mistake under certain circumstances e.g. losing/forgetting a Railcard, rushing to get the train without buying a ticket, missing your stop etc.0 -
Find out how he does it, then let the railway know then their can correct the loophole.0

Are you quite sure this man is doing this on a regular basis or is he just trying to impress everyone with how clever he is, or thinks he is? Either way, I do feel it is possible to get a bit "holier than thou" about it.
How would you report him, and to whom? It would just be your word against his. Presumably there is not an inspector on the train, or if there is he is not doing his job, perhaps because the train is so crowded and he can't get around so what do you propose to do? If he is caught by an inspector, he would doubtless claim it was a one-off, and who is going to prove otherwise?0 -
Why don't you try bragging about how you shopped someone for fare-dodging & they got fined hundreds of pounds? It might make him shut up at least.
Or ask him why he imagines that bragging about dodging his fare makes him look anything other than a grasping fool.0 -
Give him the cold shoulder when he starts to brag about not paying his fare. He'll get caught eventually, so I wouldn't bother reporting him. Just try and be around when he gets ticking off from the conductor!0

You don't have to take on all of them. If every decent person just took on one the world would be a much happier place. Can I help?0 -
I've often done this on short journeys from smaller stations. The absolute worst that'll happen is he'll have to buy a regular ticket when a conductor comes along0

Should you report him ? - I don't know. Who is this 'should'?
Do you want to report him ? - only you know the answer to that, and it's a personal thing. I certainly wouldn't let on if I had reported.
Knowing that there is a thief in the office though, that is another matter. I would take extra care with all my belongings. And I wouldn't sit near him on the train, either, just in case my ticket 'happened' to fall out of my pocket and into his, in the event of him needing one at short notice.
jesus, there's some precious people on this forum!! yeah the lad is a bit of a tit for "bragging" about it, but comparing to someone who steals personal belongings from work mates.... bit harsh!0 -
What would Jeebuz do?
The Baby Jeebuz woud do what?
And why would the Baby Jeebuz do it?
If you believe in the Baby Jeebuz, you should have a chatette with him and be guided by his wisdom.
That's what I'd do. If I believed in the Baby Jeebuz.0
