Aww so glad Lucy is on the mend

So very relieved to learn that Lucy is on the mend. These last few days must have been hell on earth for both of you. She's in the best possible hands and plenty of TLC will work wonders over the next few days. Your awful experience has alerted many people to the risk of blue-green algae. All the very best to both of you. Take good care.xx0

I know exactly how you feel - when milo first got ill I rushed him to the vet (Friday evening) and was told to take him home (with medication) and get him eating over the weekend, I tried everything possible and the only thing I could get him to take was cooled water that I had cooked some white fish in and I was syringing the water into my hand and he was licking it out of my hand. On both bouts of illness he spent approx. 6 days in the vet hospital on drips etc. During his first stay he ripped his drip feed out, so they put a muzzle on him and he chewed that off, so they then put a buster collar on him and he worked out how to get that into the top corner of the kennel to rip his drip feed out. The second stay he managed to chew around the edge of his buster collar (they still don't know how he managed to do this but he made his gums bleed - I still have a photo of the buster collar now), and then he ripped his drip feed out, so they put it into the other leg and he ripped that out too so they told me to take him home!!
Wouldn't you think the vet would find a way to ensure the poor dog couldn't rip the drip feed out?
Lucy's front legs are quite sore...it's obvious there have been at least two attempts made on each leg to insert the drip and she's made the legs bleed by chewing at them.
Now of course they are itching or irritating her and she's licking and nibbling at them, making them worse. The vet says to stop her from doing that, but easier said than done. Where her legs were shaved, the razor has left grazes on her skin on both legs and that shouldn't happen.
Still, that's the least of my worries as the drip may well have saved her life. That's all that matters.0 -
