I took this to mean there are cards designed for internet use only, which of course wouldn't need a PIN. If that's not the case I apologise for getting the wrong end of the stick.
There is all the verification at the point of phone/internet sale, but this is when they come into store to pick up the items they have ordered and paid for, we do a PIN verification on the card used to ensure that the items are going to the correct person, as opposed to someone spending a load of money on a stolen card and collecting all the items to then sell them on to get the cash.
And I meant that some people have cards that they use for internet shopping only and not for instore shopping, hence they have never used the PIN and can't generally remember it.0 -
With the tills situation. It happens at every supermarket I go in. Customers go through the doors in dribs n dribs, but feel the need to join the checkouts when they have 3 customers per till queuing. Then 10 mins later, the queues have gone and go straight to a checkout or cashier has started to scan the shopping of their only customer at their till.
If I turn up to the checkouts and its the former, I just go up and down a couple of aisles. Then the queues are subsidised.

some customers do seem to have problems starting a new queue
i remember one time it was fairly quiet, there was about 5 customers and about 5 tills open, so each could have thier own till.
but instead, all of them queued up at the same till.
i've seen plenty of times where customers complain about needing to open more tills where there are already some free tills available.
no real point opening more tills if the customers arn't even using the ones that are open
you even get complaints when you have staff directing customers to the empty tills, some even refusing to move to the shorter queues0 -

Why do customers have problems with going to a till with no other customers?
My friend works for a supermarket and the customers all go to one till. She is a supervisor and informs to customers that there are two or three other tills with no queue. Customers moan about moving yet are happy with joining the nearest till with three other customers queuing.

In my regular supermarket; I know the regular operators. I would rather wait behind one other customer for an operator I know and trust to be competent than change queues for one I have never seen before.
I do hope your friend the supervisor asks the customer if they would like to change queues rather than tell them - or as one did to me once, just grab the trolley and pull it away.I need to think of something new here...0 -
I'll give you my reason...

I think very, very few people would use this reason.
I don't buy this knowing the change is going to be OK reason either. for example if you're change is due to be £2.37 it doesn't really take that long to check it's correct before leaving. With me I can simply glance at money and know the total. Even if you're not that quick like I am it's hardly going to take more than 2 seconds.
Also the post you quoted said the person informs people that there are other tills. It really would take somebody who is very uppity to be bothered about the exact wording of how they were informed of other tills.0 -
My friend does not force customers to go to another till, she just tell customers that there other tills with smaller or no queues further down.
The only time she has to push trolleys against customers wishes is if the till crashes. It takes 10 mins to reboot tills. My friend had one customer refusing to move - no shopping on conveyor belt. Everyone - customers and shop workers were bemused with this customer. The cashier on the crashed till just opened another till. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. People like that are their own worst enemy. I would have just left them there as well informing them if they don't wish to use another till they will be served in 10 minutes time.0
