I had a thread on here around this time last year for the same exact reason - cats pooping in my garde - and got some excellent advice but was also told that I was not a proper animal lover for hating cats. Erm, ok

We ended up using kebab skewers in the area they kept pooping in and it worked a treat:D

    I still hate cats;)

Update.... I purchased 2 water pistols and started spraying the cats, now when I open the door the cats walk away instead of running towards it small progress, however they always come back and lay on the decking or side of verandah.

I have used cayenne pepper, citrus spray and cat deter power on decking in an attempt to stop them laying on decking area but none have worked. They keep on coming back.

I managed to speak to a neighbour who told me they are wild cats, there were 8 cats in total but now only 5. The neighbours have clubbed together and had the cats neutered and they also feed them. The cats have been in neighbourhood for 8 years.

Now my thing is if I cannot get rid of these cats I will call RSPCA in as none of the residents are taking responsibility for the cats. I'm going to give it a few months though.

Although the water spray works I do not have the time to spray them each time they come in garden so I have brought 2 scarecrow sprinklers. In the space of 3 days I've spent £120 on 2 scarecrow sprinklers, citrus spray, cayenne pepper and deter cat powder. I don't even own a cat!!!

In my opinion cats who have owner's should be made to stay in doors and in their owner's back garden nobody else's!! Over the last couple of days I've google it all on how to deter cats ect. There is fencing which can be purchased to keep cats inside the garden. Simple keep your cat indoors or tamed in a back garden.

I don't care what the laws say about cats being wild animals blah blah blah. I'm sorry I'm supposed to be enjoying my new home but I'm here itching to death and trying to get rid of cats!!

  • Feral cats are welcome on farms, where they keep vermin down and don't require any maintenance (other than neutering). You could try speaking to a local independent cat sanctuary in case they have rural contacts that could take them, rather than the RSPCA.

The neighbours have created a nusiance for the street now in that the cats are neither truly feral nor microchipped pets for which a named indivdual is responsible. You shouldn't feed a stray without accepting responsibility.

It will take a while for your property to become unwelcome for these, so grit your teeth and persist. I would say they're not as annoying as chav neighbours, barking dogs and screeching kids but that's a personal opinion.

I do feel for people who have cats crapping in their garden if it bothers them. I have to say, I've never once noticed cat poo in my garden but given the number of cats in the area I'd be surprised if there was none! That said, my garden is largely patio and decking, with Only a small amount of lawn, and as I have no children I don't spend much time on it. That said, I can never once remember my parents having this issue when I was a child - we played outside all day every day and I don't once remember stepping in cat poo....

I personally have a cat and have no issues with cats in my garden. I provide my cat with a litter tray - sometimes she uses it, more often she doesn't. If I let her outside, there is literally no way of keeping her in. She can climb on flat roofs, jump between them, climb trees and fences. I suppose I could investigate these cat proof fences mentioned, but I'd probably have to chop all my trees down so it's not really feasible.

Am I an irresponsible cat owner? I don't think so. Yes, I chose to own a cat. I chose to let it outside as I believe keeping cats in is cruel. Those are my only crimes. Personally, I can't bear dogs off leads in public places - I was bitten by one as a 9 year old and knocked over by one in a park as a 2 year old. Even as an adult, dogs not on a lead scare me a bit. But I'm not on a crusade to insist all dogs are kept on leads all the time simply because some people don't like it...

To the OP, stick with water sprays etc...it will take time but you'll get there. Just like children, cats need time to learn stuff!

    Hi

Well l I've finally received the keys to my new home and have one problem cats by my back doors. There are 4 in total.

I can only assume that the previous owner fed the cats hence why each time I open my back doors they come rushing, I thought one was going to crashed into the door it came running so fast.

I will not be feeding the cats but my main concern is the previous owner lived at the property for many years. I can't see the cats leaving anytime soon. It's been a week and they have been there day and night.

Any ideas on how I can stop the cats from coming in my garden and by my back doors.

    Thanks

Cats are adorable. Why would you want to discourage the little fluffies?

Not everybody loves cats. Just as many people hate them as love them. I can't stand them. The main reason for discouraging them is that they dig up your garden and deposit their crap in it.

There was one dumping in our flower bed last Sunday. Wife saw it and picked up a stone to scare it off. To her (and my) amazement she hit the thing square on the chest. It disappeared pretty damn quick! If a cat has the right to roam into my garden, we have the right to deter it from doing so. They are pests.

I got the neighbour a few things to use but lion dung seemed the most effective thing, good for the plants as well.
I do find it wryly amusing that the best way to get rid of the turd of small cats is to fill your garden with the turd of big ones! :D

You have a right to deter them yes but not to deliberately hurt them that's against the law. If your wife had no intention of hurting the cat then there were other things she could have done.

It would seem to me were living in a society where cats have more rights than people. Absolute joke!

Ok so feral cats are too wild to be rehoused and would be in distress if relocated, are you kidding me what about the stress there causing me, therefore it's ok for me to live with these wild creatures. I've heard it all now.

Jim if you look at my initial post I never once mentioned the cats pooing in the garden they don't do that, my concern was they kept on running to the back door and five cats is an excessive amount I would not have an issue if it was just one.

Yes one cat is adorable not five.
