So many daft sarcastic pedantic posts. Why do people have to be so nasty to the OP? They have a genuine issue.

I am a big fan of cats: MINE, not other peoples. We have had many a time when a cat has decided to hang around our home because its owner cannot be ars'd to look after it properly. It comes for attention and food, and if you give in, you can't get rid of it. It doesn't love you or even like you; it just wants you to feed it. We used to be soft, and feed them and be nice, and before long, we couldn't shake them, and they would start intimidating and bullying our cats.

Last time we moved house, we made sure we were never nice to any cat again that came onto our property. We are not horrid of course, but we just ignore them as much as possible. They don't stay then.

All I can suggest to the OP is to ignore them and don't feed them. See if you can get the pet store to suggest something, but I think squirting a bit of cool water at them will be a good start. Cats hanging around can be difficult to get rid of.

You can try telling RSPCA, but they are pretty useless. And Cats Protection are OK, but rarely have the resources to do anything.

Good luck. And don't let people on here get to you.

Although I'm moving from a flat into my new home, I've lived in several houses growing up and never experienced cats running out the wood works as soon as I put the key in the back door.

It's quite frightening 5 large cats running towards me, yes another one 5. The previous owner should have mentioned this, I'm not happy about this at all.

I hope water, no food and repellant will do the trick! I suppose this debate could go on and on, however I respect other people's opinion but It really annoys me people that say don't worry about it it's simple. I'm so far from an animal lover it's untrue I don't even feel like moving that's have strongly I feel about these damn cats. Not happy.

    People have house cats.

Read my post above, wild animals are different. If I had kids climbing in your garden - would you complain? If I took a dump in your garden would you complain? of course - this is no different.

I dont want a flat, I want a house with a garden I can enjoy without fear of stepping in something.

Where I live it would be an offence if you either had a poo or a wee in my garden. Bye-law. You would be fined and shamed in the local paper.

This is because you are a human. Cats can poo and wee as they wish without prosecution.

Try fox poo. Trod in it as soon as I stepped on to the patio. Then by the washing line and again on the decking. Not forgetting the numerous 'orrible slugs I nearly stepped on and the snails (sorry snails) I crunched. And don't talk to me about the ants at the moment. Having a garden is a hazard.

The OP has my sympathy and I'm a cat owner! I think the not feeding and spraying with water will hopefully help them go somewhere else.

My cat is an indoor cat and has a litter tray so no- one can complain about her toileting habits.

By the way I live in a flat but have both a front and back garden.
Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

I think water is quite mean (as I said before, they don't realise they are a nuisance to you) but can understand why you'd do it. As long as you don't hurt them - some cat haters go to disgusting lengths to get rid of them - physical abuse, poisoned biscuits etc :(

Good luck - I hope they get the message!

So because a cat might belong to someone it's somehow different to another animal if it takes a liberty in your garden?/QUOTE]

Because cats are well known megafauna of Britain?

!!!!!! if there's a cat about it's because some stupid berk wanted it and couldn't be bothered to look after it or someone likes Tiddles but would rather not have it's crap on their patch?

Cats aren't wild animals. The hint is in the domesticated animal bit. If you want to have cats in a city then maybe you need to think about the other people who live in the city,. else you're gonna take some heat for all the sheeit on their land? What part of this don't you get?

^ I tried that, and those cat repellent pellets - they never worked.

Yeah, I thought that too at first, but apparently your supposed to sprinkle them around the garden.

  • I love the way cat lovers think everyone wants their cat in someone else's back garden using it as a toilet, yet take a dog for a walk and it does it business and there's hell to pay if the owner does not clean it up.
I used to chuck the mess back over next doors fence years ago when I had a similar problem.
