Landlord replaced appliance with an inferior one.

Hello and thank you for reading.
I have rented a flat in Manchester for over two years.
The dishwasher door spring broke. It would have cost £35 to get the parts to fix it.
The landlord decided to buy a new one instead.
The original was integrated. The flat and the kitchen are high spec and really nice.
The replacement is not integrated (doesn't look like a cabinet door), clashes with everything in the kitchen, and looks embarrassing and disgusting.
The landlord doesn't care.
The estate agent treats tenants like filth, constantly reminding us that the landlord is their client, not the tenant.
I've explained and included photos. They just don't care.
My question: if I rented a high spec flat can they just stick this eyesore in? Why should I still pay top rents?
Thank you!

Is it mentioned in the inventory? How specifically?0

If the look of a dishwasher is really that important why not move, if the actual repair cost was £35 why didn't you just do it yourself?0

I dont think you can complain that your landlord has replaced a dishwasher that broke with a new one.... Im not surprised the agents arnt interested, I have lived in a rented house and been a landlord and would never dream about complaining of how a dishwasher looked, let alone replacing it if I was a landlord again.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I think it's time to hand in your notice and find somewhere else to live.
I would suggest you do not use the services of an agency and go to a landlord directly.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

No need to do that.
Go and buy a brand new high spec city centre Penthouse apartment with views of the sea ASAP
Then you can make sure only the best gear is fitted.
A dishwasher ! What's wrong with the sink.
Move ASAP
Hand in written notice and find somewhere better to live.0 -
I'm going to get into trouble for this post but I'm asking a genuine question.
If the tenancy contract mentions the dishwasher, presumably the landlord is obliged to replace/repair it when it breaks (though not necessarily like-for-like).
If the contract states a specific kind of dishwasher, would that oblige the landlord to replace like-for-like?
I've never had a contract that was that specific, I'm just interested.0 -
Is that expensive...:eek:0

I know many people will say 'well at least you got a dishwasher' but though I think the words you use don't make me feel sympathetic to you (embarrassing/disgusting) I do feel you have a moral if not a legal right to a like for like replacement.
The words embarrassing and disgusting for the style of dishwasher make me think you are young and rather shallow, thinking that the way things look are the ultimate importance.
But, that is presumably what you rented, you looked for an apartment that was flashy and could impress and now you feel it doesn't.
Sadly for you and you needs I think this will not change so maybe a change of flat is what you need.0 -
OP: I bet the landlord is over the moon having tenants like you.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

perhaps you should consider buying or renting unfurnished then that way you can have what you likeIf i knew the answers to all the questions i wouldn't be on here0
