No, the laws are under the jurisdiction of the incorporated company (in this case Jersey).

    Sorry.

Does the fact Companies House have their registered office address as Somerset change anything?

That is a dormant company. You'd be hard pressed to server any legal paperwork on it

    Ah.
The cynic in me says they got fed up of havinga legal obligation to refund people for items they didn't deliver goods to so set up shop in a territory with fewer legal protections for consumers

It is actually a dormant company who's parent company Bentham Limited trade as Morgan Computers from the same address.

It may be that Bentham have registered IJT Direct in the UK to prevent somebody else registering with the same name as their Jersey company as part of a deal to provide the UK distribution point..

Interestingly all the directors (4) of the Somerset IJT Direct changed in Feb 2014. I haven't found a way to get director details for the Jersey company without having to pay.

This appears no different to the myriad of chines laptop battery suppliers who appear to have a UK address but it is purely a distribution point that another company runs for them.

    Companies posting on the forum

    What's a company representative?
We do not allow advertising of any type on the forum. This is against the forum rules (see Why was my post about my company/site/blog deleted?).
If you see something written about your company and would like a right of reply, please see How do I get a right of reply on what's been said about my company?
We also have a very limited number of 'company representatives'; these are checked out and verified spokespeople for specific firms. This status is granted entirely at our discretion, where we've identified it as being in forum users' interests.
Which type of companies are allowed?

We strictly limit it to household names with huge numbers of customers, companies that have been mentioned in the MSE guides, or non-profit agencies we have a relationship with.

    Update 21/07/2014

I have just been contacted this morning by IJT - specifically the Operations Manager Nick. He has apologized about the way this was handled (The email, apparently a junior staff member sent it, without the relevant knowledge on how to handle the complaint), and has let me know that a replacement printer is being sent out to me, and should be with me tomorrow (Tuesday the 22nd July 2014).

I will keep this post updated as soon as I have safely received the printer. Many thanks to the posters on this forum for their advice and help.

Well done, glad to see the right thing has been done. Hopefully someone will get to the bottom of where the original printer ended up too.

Parcel was delivered today in good condition and no issues thankfully! Just wanted to mention that the parcel had no external brown paper covering, just the manufacturers boxing, where it is clearly labelled what kind of product it is, for all to see.

Once again, a big thank you to all you guys here at the forum for your advice, as well as Nick at IJT for taking care of the problem in a decent manner.

  • I have just read this thread concerning lost parcel and IJT's refusal to refund etc etc. I live in Spain and have purchased a number of items successfully in the past. However, this was until last month! I purchased a tablet on behalf of a friend, which turned out not to accept google play so I returned for a refund. But, even though I posted certificated for tracking and signature, this parcel has still not arrived. Now a month later, after numerous email communications with the so called "customer support" all I keep getting told is until it arrives with them (at Somerton) there is nothing they can do. I even scanned and sent copy of Spanish document confirming tracking number etc, but they insisted not their problem. Spanish post office were able to track it until it reached UK 2 days later. Royal Mail say, responsibility of Spanish post Office! I have even registered my complaint with Universal Postal Union! I just want my money back. Where is this Nick you refer to in IJT.? Will have to try to track him down - last resort. Any help will be appreciated. In the meantime I will not be recommending IJT to anyone anymore!
