You could buy a scooter or motorbike at the moment?

Then you only have 1 car to park and you can still use the car when you go out together.

Who is the loan with? If its the FIL I'd move out and leave him the cabin in lieu of the debt and start again somewhere away from the family.

But now what little parking there is is being used. Somedays, including yesterday morning at 06:30 when I got in from work I can't park at all. I'm not talking about having to park a street or three away, I actually can't park at all. So I have to call my wife, wake her or disturb her to move her car somewhere else that the family will ruefully accept so as I can park. I hate doing this but there's nothing else I can do. Diplomacy has failed.

    That doesn't make any sense.

Why get your wife up to move her car, why not leave your wife in bed and put your car where she would have moved hers to?

I read it that the family would have a bit more leniency with the wife parking somewhere on the property that they wouldn't allow OP to (but only reluctantly, hence the wife's car not being left there to leave OP a space)

I've been "at the mercy" of living under the favour of a relative. All I can say is that it's the price you pay for the benefits you get - if you don't like it, then find a way to live elsewhere. Could you maybe look into residential jobs, e.g. an estate that would allow a couple?

    Ok, if that's the case I'l re-phrase.

Why get the wife up, why not get the keys and move her car himself then park his.
