Used to love my Galaxy S3 - now it's laggy as hell

I'm coming to the end of my 2 year contract with my S3. Prior to this, I had iPhones for years but wanted to try an Android.

At first, I loved the S3 - thought it to be superior to my iPhone 4 in every department (especially in terms of configurability), and loved the bigger screen.

Ever since the last update though (Android 4.3) it's been slow and laggy. Sometimes it's ok, but often trying to make a quick call or open an app seems to take forever as it lags between screens/turns black while it seems to "think about" what it's supposed to be doing, etc... it's infuriating!

I've tried all suggestions on the web - deleting certain apps, full reset, etc... but no matter what I do it still reverts back to being slooooow. I have hardly any apps installed - certainly no "big" apps or games, but the phone still struggles to complete even basic tasks in a reasonable time.

Unfortunately, I'm now thinking of going back to iPhone (aagh!), unless anyone can suggest a reliable alternative smartphone that performs well without lag??

iphone 4 or 4s running the laetest OS is also laggy.

Samsung really screwed up the s3 with the latest update, music stutters on two different ones my friends have. They have sworn never to go samsung again.

Yes - my music (or audiobooks, etc...) also stutters A LOT when I play it in the car.

I think any phone will be showing its age at the end of a two year contract. My iPhone 5 is coming up to two years and whilst still does all I need it is showing its age.

My friend has just gone from an S3 to an S5 is is really impressed with the speed of it.

Its always speedy until you start installing all the apps you need and a ton of contacts that you never call anyway.

Same as a PC fast from the box with no software, Add your antivirus and firewall and it gets a bit slower than all the updates and browser addons and you wish you have your old P166MMX and windows 95.

You can sell phone to a private buyer if you tell them its rooted .
Trade in probably not as root voids warranty .

How to is all in post 4 link but you do not root to cynagon mod.
You root to open up the locked down parts of the OS . You can then install a custom rom . But as root or custom rom may brick your phone you must read and understand the instructions .

You can completely undo any changes you make to the phone, including resetting the flash counter.

While resetting the flash counter is easy, there is currently no way to reset the KNOX counter which Samsung have been using since Android 4.3
