You need a certain level of cynicism when reading any communications from TVL.

    Let me add some emphasis...
Enforcement officers may use a hand-held detection device to measure both the direction and the strength of a TV signal.
May... or may not. ("May" the most abused word ever).

And then what? Like I said, the majority of offenders are prosecuted through confessions. That process does not need technical evidence of evasion, and does not involve technical evidence of evasion.

Our enforcement officers have access to hand-held detection devices capable of detecting a TV within minutes.
Access to... so they don't actually carry them around.

But why do some folk have to make a simple post very complex in my view

In order to stand a chance of keeping it on track, you need to stop speculating and posting things that aren't true.

Some of us have a great deal of knowledge of the subject, and feel obliged to correct anything that needs correction.

Yet again this forum is getting out of hand

Please reply if you have something constructive regarding my original post
The aggressive way TVL chase potential residents that DONT have a licence OR pay by instalments
Sorry for the rant But why do some folk have to make a simple post very complex in my view

I actually registered to reply to this post. People are making your post complex because your knowledge of TV licensing is completely incorrect and you are posting false information.

A TV license is only required if you watch live broadcasts (UK OR Foreign) via ANY device. TV, PC, laptop, phone, tablet etc.

If you watch catch up only, you are currently not liable to pay for a TV license.

You can own 100 TV's if you like, but if it does not receive live broadcasts, you do not need a license.

Detector vans and handheld equipment have never been used in Court as evidence in a conviction.

TVL "enforcers" are merely salesman. You wouldnt let a gas salesman in to check your cooker. If anyone calls, don't speak to them, close your door, move on with your day.

That thread was more for the person who said " there is no hand held instrument for checking the tv is being used :-)

And if you think that will stop all the nonsense being written, you have a greater faith in human nature than I have.

I suggest you read from the beginning and also I am talking from experience And considering there are something like 500,000 court cases I'm convinced some of them are used and if not it's because they have already used them to catch the offenders
I hope most of my info is factual
I read somewhere if you have a means to watch tv ie an arial or dish then I think they use that as proof

I don't know if your aware but the TVL have the right of entry

    No they don't.
it is an offence to have a piece of equipment in your property that could be used to watch live or recorded programmes

    No it isn't.

You've already been told you're wrong, and given proof in the form of the FAQ from the TVL website.

Could you please stop spreading misinformation, now?
