TV licensing threats

They've probably been down the street at night before they even knock at your door so they know you've got a TV anyway. Once you've opened the door and they can hear it or see it they don't need any more proof.
Even in the good old days when they had a rotating crate on top of a Morris Oxford estate car they only checked out houses that didn't have a licence and they would patrol the streets at night making lists of places which had TV's on to visit during the day. Nowadays if they just had a mobile phone in their hand and said they'd detected you you'd be hard pressed to disprove it if the TV was on in the background.
Despite what many on here are making out I am NOT stupid I know the difference :mad:0 -

I'm referring to those that question what ACTUALLY happened as I said I was there they weren't so they are going on the limited in some cases knowledge ASSUMING what I KNOW to be fact is wrong0 -
I'm sure the main participants in this thread have read this but I thought i would put it on here anyway It's quite a long read I was especially interested in the last page ( 5) of the submission

I can tell you that early results from the survey of warrant applications is suggesting that the numbers are tiny - may just scrape in below 3 figures for whole country, the way we are going.0

They do carry handheld computers. These are probably ruggedised and I wouldn't put it past them pretending that it was a detector, or using an ambiguous form of words to make you believe that it was.
For a variety of reasons the myth of the routine use of detection still looms large in people's minds. The truth (as usual) is somewhat more nuanced.
The problem otherwise is that your story does not tally with not just all of our hundreds/thousands of reports, but also with the official BBC line. ie. you did not receive a search warrant and therefore a detector was not used.0 -
When you next answer the door, you should get your phone out and say it's your bullsh yte detector and it's detecting an in-balance.
See what the dude does.0 -

What I'm wrong about the original thread OR that I was there ???0 -
God there is some ridiculous stuff in this thread. They do not have handheld gadgets that can tell you are watching TV. Kayak10, was your TV on when he came? TVs dont give out any magical waves. Also would this gadget be able to analyze satalite or tell if there is a cable going into your house being used for live TV or hack into a secure wifi to tell if you are streaming live TV? Of course it cant. Nothing exists that can. Its pretty much certain that the detector vans are also BS since TVL admit that evidence from such things has never been used in court. Even if the detector vans are real is it possible to compact all that equipment into a portable device, of course its not.
I fully believe he had 'something' in his hand. These people carry portable computers to log visits etc but they are not magical detection devices.0 -
Since there are only three regular posters to this large thread, surely the conversation (such as it is) would be better conducted via private message?:D0
