Oh, just remembered, you could apply & cross your fingers to get a barrister (free) from the bar pro bono unit:

I haven't read all the t&cs but I do know if your case fits their criteria they will put it out there for a barrister to pick up...if one can, and they will then contact you. Worth a try for the appeal, act quickly and decide over the weekend.
Just to clarify this. You can't apply directly. You have to go through a referral agency to be considered.0 -
Thanks NeilCr. I've heard about a Defendant who went through this and the person did get a barrister, so it was a usable system.
Seems ironic that Daniel san's case was lost and the Judge wouldn't listen, yet sassii - Essex/London area? - got £1700+ in costs (a second victory after a previous high award, AFAIK) against PCM for a pretty similar residential parking event, not in a marked bay:

It is still but it is a process
We've had a couple of people in who have wanted us to refer them. It's quite a complicated form to complete and you need time for this and to understand the case and to make sure that all the papers are there etc etc. Where I am (we are small and very very busy) we are reluctant to do it as we are all lay volunteers and have no trained solicitors. Other, bigger branches may have more resources and/or more volunteer time to give
Other referrers are solicitors, law centres, law schools etc and, from what I have seen, having legal knowledge, at least, would make the whole thing easier.

After reading IamEmanresu's subsequent post I should add that none of the clients who approached us did so re parking. Could go on at some length about the changes in legal aid a few years ago but I'll spare the forum that!0 -

Looked at this the other day for a civil case for a lot more than is at play here, and can't see it would apply hereDocuments to include with your Application

Seems the list of documents points to the kind of cases they will take. In addition, AFAIK this is an attempt by the Bar to cover for missing legal aid. The Bar have published some reports in the last few days about the state of the courts and access to them. Parking tickets weren't mentioned. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If it is hasn't already, it may be worth posting this over on pepipoo as well, so more eyes can see it and offer advice/helpFrom the Plain Language Commission:

Sorry that you did not win your case.
Some car insurance policies have legal cover which includes car parking issues. I don't know how it would work with an appeal. It also may increase premiums. I just thought that I would put it out there.

Just caught up with the additional replies that I hadn't seen until now, thank you.
It's been a difficult one to get my head around tbh. Now it seems there are opinions that I couldn't win anyway. With the costs and time and effort of getting a transcript, requesting permission to appeal etc etc and then possible filing my own claim for the own space PCN's, and the potential to find a judge that once again is running late, doesn't really listen, doesn't seem to understand or acknowledge what seems to me a perfectly reasonable legal argument such as no land owner permission etc, just seems like I'm bashing my head against a brick wall. This whole saga has dragged on for years now and quite honestly I and my family have had enough of it all. At this time, I think I'm just going to pay them and wash my hands of it all. It's a chunk of money to throw away, but without anything new to add to the case, I don't think it's worth throwing more money at it in the hope of a better result.0
