Just to say hi. been away for a few days. Colleague has gone off on leave for a while at short notice so i have to be here this week, when I had planned to be away. So last week's break was finalised the night beforehand.
Anyway, will pick up later, although I now have meetings for the next three evenings.
Any luck with the tax credits? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Not a word.....
Will phone AGAIN in the week.

I am seething - which doesn't happen very often! In fact my hands are still shaking after the phone call I just had with MCS.....
The postal strike saved me from the drivel for a while but today a letter arrived from them. Apparently I have "failed to make payment as requested and we therefore now have no alternative but to take final action against you".
This is the usual solicitors, CCJs, bailiffs etc.
APPARENTLY the £1 standing order money has not reached them. I find this exceedingly hard to believe as my bank is a minute diddy little branch, has NEVER failed me yet and I'm on 1st name terms with one of the 2 cashiers because she is a friend of my brother!
The bank is going to phone back in a mo as they are both working on the tills at the moment.
Bloody MCS.

P.S It goes without saying that the woman at MCS was her usual charmless, smarmy self.
P.P.S Also phoned Tax Credits for the FOURTH TIME this morning and my previous 3 phone calls have made no difference. Still getting £80.0 -

I think I went to see CAB on around the 9th Jan 2005.
Apparently, on 17th Jan 2005 I phoned MCS up to leave them a new address (my mother's) and to ask them to issue me a new payment card. This note mentions NOTHING of my circumstances!
had you told them previously that you were in a refuge?
I did tell them several times when I was in a refuge. At that time, I had no money AT ALL
Certainly on the 17th they would have been in no doubt where I was.
Letter from CAB to MCS on 26th January, 2005.
Dear Sirs,
(My name and address)
We have been approached by the above named for financial advice and enclose a signed authority to act on our client's behalf.
Mrs X has been forced to leave the marital home due to relationship breakdown and has been unable to obtain details of the money owed to you or precise details of account references.
We would be obliged if you would confirm the amount outstanding to yourselves, the type of agreement entered into and whether or not interest is accruing for our assessment purposes. Also we would appreciate that any recovery action is stayed until we can provide a financial statement and make offers of payment.
We look forward to your reply in due course. Should you wish to discuss this matter further phone us - - -
This looks like a standard holding letter that has not been edited to account for your situation. probably sent to all your creditors?
This is tactful to the point of being unhelpful.
£100 for January 2006,
1st Feb. they received the letter from CAB. MCS says they sent the balance details to CAB.
10th Feb I wrote and said I had moved back home.
10th Feb 2005 - MCS have written that they received a further letter (?) from CAB stating I had returned home and that there is a repayment arrangement in place.
I really don't understand CAB's 10th Feb letter as no one had contacted me to find out my plans for repayment.
ACEY - since the standing order was still in place, they must have assumed that there is a repayment arrangement in place.
£100 for February 2006,
28th Feb 2005 - MCS received a further letter from CAB to say they were no longer acting on my behalf.
£100 for March 2006,
On 26th April, guess what - they called wanting to INCREASE my payments!
£100 for April 2006,
£100 on 25th May 2006,
29th May 2006 they phoned asking for payments to be increased again.
23rd June 2005 I asked payments to be reduced from £100 to £75.
£100 26th June 2006,
£100 25th July 2006
1st August - they sent letter asking for increase.
21st August 2006 - phone call from me to say can't manage £75 per month as no job. really unwell at this stage.
£100 25th August 2006,
4th Sep 2006 - they phoned and hassled.
£100 25th September,
27th Sep - they sent letter asking for full repayment (how helpful! to someone who was unable to leave the sofa)
£100 25th October 2006
30th October - payments down to £20 per month
November 2006 £33.92
December 2006 £33.92 Yes to both, wonder why it wasn't £20?
3rd Jan 2007- letter re increase
15th Jan - phone call re increase
Letter dated 16th January 2007 and had a slip at the bottom which I sent to my bank.
I had phoned MCS to say I could no longer afford the payments I had been making so this is for £21 per month.
January 2007 £33.92
February 2007 £33.92 and £21
5th March - letter re increase
18th March - phone call re increase
March 2007 £33.92 and £21
April 2007 £33.92 and £21
10 October letter Apparently I have "failed to make payment as requested and we therefore now have no alternative but to take final action against you". This is the usual solicitors, CCJs, bailiffs etc. APPARENTLY the £1 standing order money has not reached them. Spoke to MCS and my hands are still shaking after the phone call.
I phoned my bank and they said the standing order paperwork reached them too late to pay it in September. It is however, all go for October.
I phoned MCS for a 2nd time to say I had been in touch with the bank. Really odd - this time, they picked up and said, "Oh, Mrs X - you phoned earlier - just ignore the letter we sent you - bye now". I was left going "but... the bank... September..." and she was still saying, "Our mistake, disregard it" then hung up!
ACey
Updated the chronology and removed my queries and your responses where things are now agreed
CAB have not sent me copies of the 2 later letters.
Any chance you could ask them for these letters?Thinking about it, they knew very well the family circumstances because they kept asking me to "get Mr X to pay some" and each time I said I have no contact with him because of his violence/breakdown of the marriage.
Any idea of the date when you would have told them htis? Does not matter it you cant.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
RAS - they sound so SURE about the £80 on the phone!! Is there any way I wouldn't be entitled to the full amount?
