Well, the repaid mortgage was nice while it lasted! Went to get a new tyre and needed FOUR.... I did think the steering was getting heavy...

Cheaper than the fine you would get for "driving an unsafe vehicle" or whatever they call it, though. And you are all safer now, particularly with the winter coming

Apparently, on 17th Jan 2005 I phoned them up to leave them a new address (my mother's) and to ask them to issue me a new payment card. This note mentions NOTHING of my circumstances!

had you told them previously that you were in a refuge?

1st Feb. they received a letter from CAB who were working for me at that time. So the letter from CAB surely must have outlined my circumstances once again. - Would CAB have a copy of the letter on file?

10th Feb I wrote and said I had moved back home.

On 26th April, guess what - they called wanting to INCREASE my payments! I was paying £100 per month. - so you had paid £100 per month from December 2004 to April 2005?

29th May 2006 they asked for payments to be increased again. (They phoned)

    £100 on 25th May 2006,

23rd June 2005 I asked payments to be reduced from £100 to £75.

    £100 26th June 2006, £100 25th July

1st August - they sent letter asking for increase.

21st August 2006 (I was mad at this point) - angry or unwell?

    - phone call from me to say can't manage £75 per month as no job.

    £100 25th August 2006,

4th Sep 2006 - they phoned and hassled.

    £100 25th September,

27th Sep - they sent letter asking for full repayment (how helpful! to someone who was unable to leave the sofa)

    £100 25th October 2006

30th October - payments down to £20 per month

    November 2006 £33.92
    December 2006 £33.92

3rd Jan 2007- letter re increase

15th Jan - phone call re increase

Letter dated 16th January 2007 and had a slip at the bottom which I sent to my bank.

I had phoned MCS to say I could no longer afford the payments I had been making so this is for £21 per month.

    January 2007 £33.92

    February 2007 £33.92 and £21

5th March - letter re increase

18th March - phone call re increase

    March 2007 £33.92 and £21
    April 2007 £33.92 and £21

Right, I've got my bank a/c on the internet (although it only lets me go back 15 months) and I'm going to check everything you wrote and make corrections in purple!!!

I don't think they list all my phone calls to them. Certainly on the 17th they would have been in no doubt where I was. I only went in on the 7th Jan so it is feasible that it took me 10 days to phone them.

1st Feb. they received a letter from CAB who were working for me at that time. So the letter from CAB surely must have outlined my circumstances once again. - Would CAB have a copy of the letter on file?

Possibly.... although its the very devil contacting them.

10th Feb I wrote and said I had moved back home.

    Yes.

    £100 on 25th May 2006,

    £100 26th June 2006, £100 25th July

Yes to all the payments as above, all paid by standing order

1st August - they sent letter asking for increase.

21st August 2006 (I was mad at this point) - angry or unwell?
Pacing the floor, having hallucinations, had lost 2 stone (and I wasn't large to start with!!)

    - phone call from me to say can't manage £75 per month as no job.

    £100 25th August 2006,

4th Sep 2006 - they phoned and hassled.

    £100 25th September,

Yes to both those £100 payments, nice to see they had ignored me after agreeing....

27th Sep - they sent letter asking for full repayment (how helpful! to someone who was unable to leave the sofa)

    £100 25th October 2006 Yes

30th October - payments down to £20 per month

    November 2006 £33.92
December 2006 £33.92 Yes to both, wonder why it wasn't £20?

3rd Jan 2007- letter re increase

15th Jan - phone call re increase

Letter dated 16th January 2007 and had a slip at the bottom which I sent to my bank.

I had phoned MCS to say I could no longer afford the payments I had been making so this is for £21 per month.

    January 2007 £33.92

    February 2007 £33.92 and £21

5th March - letter re increase

18th March - phone call re increase

    March 2007 £33.92 and £21
    April 2007 £33.92 and £21

Yes to all above, have checked statement

Sister informs me I could have lost 3 points on my driving licence for each tyre.....

Just meant to say also that where I have typed "they asked for full payment" etc, that is what is in the breakdown of charges from MCS. So they can't argue about that sort of stuff, since they typed it and sent it to me!

Re: credit checks. If you go through Quidco you can get a credit check through Experian for free and get £6 cash back!
  • Hi, yes cab will have a copy of the letter. We keep all correspondence for 6 years. Go in to reception and ask for letter or write to them ( take ID if you call in )

Now Tax Credits are denying all knowledge of last week's phone call... so I've been over it all again.

BUT.... I have also dashed off the letter to the Citizens Advice Bureau asking for a copy of the letter they wrote to MCS in 2005....

AND I've been on the phone to the Warm Front grant people. The lady suggested they fit me some loft insultation and low energy light bulbs. Then she said they could upgrade/fix my central heating. When I pointed out that I don't have any heating, she said they could fit some up to the value of £2,700!!!!!!!! I'm still shocked!
