Well, you would have thought my lazy curry was some gourmet treat tonight given Mr Mai's reaction - it's quite lucky I decided to have my foragers soup which turned out strangely nice given how little I did with it.
So, if you're ever after a curry that suits pork then Patak's madras paste, a tablespoon of white wine vinegar and a couple of slices of a tired lemon.
Just reminded me that the OS ways do get me results."We always find something, hey Didi, to give us the impression we exist?" Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot.

Today I was really pleased to find an apple corer, peeler and slicing machine reduced in our Aldi for £4.99. A bit of an extravagance but I know we'll use it. I currently have a huge bag of apples and it's so much quicker than trying to do it by hand.

I made an Apple Butterscotch Tart but I'm terrible at following recipes and decided to add a couple of over ripe peaches. Unfortunately I ended up with a very soggy bottom and the pastry was almost raw! I ended up pouring the fruit filling into a bowl and cooking the base on it's own to crisp it up. Then I re added the fruit after it had cooked.
Luckily despite looking nothing like the picture in the recipe book the family declared it a triumph in the taste department. I've put four portions in the fridge. Not sure if fruit pies are freezable?Stashbusting 2019 - 230/3000 -
Evening update, it was a NSD!
Dinner was also very OS, omelette components: onion from L1dl (could have used one from our allotment but forgot), pepper free from my trip the other day, courgette from allotment, potato from back garden (BTW it looks like a decent crop!), 4 eggs for the 3 of us.
Salad, all from allotment, lettuce tomato and cucumber. Oil from a half price stock up.
Pudding was a piece of cheese.
Great news: the dishes will no longer get washed in the toilet, we have a plumbed in kitchen sink!!!
Good night. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

How have you been washing the lettuce, just one quick flush or do you use the longer flush?:rotfl:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: and good luck for when you start, always take the time the builders give you and mentally double it. We are already nearly at double time!
Here's the OS plan for today:
Bootcamp in the sunshine, followed by, you guessed it, ironing. Today I must break the mountain's back, it has been too long!
In theory I could let it be a NSD but in practice we all like eggs for breakfast at the weekend so I might pop to the shops.
I need to do a good tidying of my bedroom too but might skip that in favour of a trip to the allotment. See how tired I feel after bootcamp.
Off to make DH's breakfast and lunch (from the bread and cheese stash).
Have a good OS day. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
DH paid today so all my September budgets start afresh. I overestimated how much he would get this month by quite a bit and as I have no income coming in at the moment it's going to be a tight 5 weeks. There is enough to pay all the bills, feed us and even a little for fun so we will be OK if we stick to the budgets.
I am also planning to pay off the credit card this month as I added a couple of hundred for some tickets/Christmas gift that I don't want to pay interest on. This money was set aside but we 'borrowed' it to pay for the dogs teeth. It is going to take me a couple of months to sort out my savings pots again.
Yesterday I bought a couple of see through pencil cases that are just the right size to keep my cash floats in and have out the cash in them ready to start the month.
I have listed the freezer contents but still need to do the pantry. Both will hopefully be emptied this month and I have joined the grocery challenge.
I got £4 discount on my hair cut yesterday because she cut it too short on the crown so it will be a nightmare for a few weeks to stop it sticking up like I have just got out of bed:eek:
I have several coats of DS that I could sell. My DMIL buys DS lots of good quality branded coats that he never wears out so I have about 6 to sell at least. I don't really like FB or fleabay but needs must.
I have done a meal plan and a shopping list for the next 3 weeks but will go through the list and cross off as much as I can. Food and DH beer are the 2 biggest expenses we have.
I have made a start on the ironing but I am not feeling too good today (again:mad:) that DH has said if I sort it into piles and put away the stuff that doesn't need to be ironed he will do it:smileyhea
I still need to vaccum the living room and tidy the kitchen as well as make something for tea.
I hope you are all having an OS day:)Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
Make £2021 extra income - £99.750 -
Hmmm, not sure if it counts as old style but I have saved around £30. Whiz, our Whippet puppy has had a bit of gummy eyes and of course I did the normal thing and called the vet yesterday. However then I did a google search and found that old teabags have soothing effects for irritated/sore eyes so I gently wiped a cold teabag over his eye yesterday afternoon and now there is no sign of any discharge at all :T! Obviously if it comes back or is sore I'll take him straight back to the vets but I was pretty pleased with that!Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0

Finally bought some dried kidney beans, Oh keeps saying, 'I do like kidney beans in my chilli' subtle or what
So going to cook them all and freeze in little bags.
Neighbour just offered me another bag of apples so I think apple sauce, chutney and crumbles are in order. Bought fruit on the market, much cheaper than sm and pretty good quality. Going to an arty f*rty local market in a minute and hoping to pop to Asian sm for some mangoes to make chutney from those too. Still got jam to make but that can wait a while as the berries are in the freezer, also have a tin of strawberry jam stuff that needs making.Clearing the junk to travel light

Reminds me to do an audit of our kitchen cupboards and fridge this week to meal plan and keep the spending down!
We went to nan dos for dinner.... We had a 2 for 1 voucher in our local voucher booklet that we used.. It was a pretty reasonable €20 and OH would like to go to the cinema tonight €8 so not bad spendy wise today!! Not buying treats at the cinema cos of dinner, trying to watch my figure
I need to get rid of these books that are taking up room in my house.. I have a rack of kid adventure vouchers that I may try and sell as I won't have any need for them!!!
Otherwise, OH spent €40 today in Next for work clothes (he has to look smart at work) but managed to get a double pack of shirts and tie and a pair of cuff links and tie clip so not bad going from him!! He can be frugal when he wants!!!
Tracking my spending using a basic spendy app and it really shows where I spend and don't need!!! I've signed up for the grocery challenge as well.. Hoping to stick to things as I will be away for 5 days this month as well094 Sealed pot member! (7) €185 (8) €138 (9) €€250
Saving for our first home!0
