I'm with you on the unreliability of tradespeople Caterina!
Decorator didn't show up today to paint the windows (not very surprising as the rain was just as heavy this morning as yesterday) but didn't bother to communicate till this afternoon (despite me emailing him on THURSDAY asking him to call me as I wanted to speak to him). Half a day's rain has apparently put his schedule out so much he can't get here till the end of the week. I'm travelling for work from next Wednesday so hopefully he'll be able to paint 17 windows and have them dry enough to leave shut for 10 days by then...
On the positive side, the builder was here with his roofer first thing, and they've given the roof a thorough check. Two damaged slates and some leadwork we knew about, but the rest of the leadwork in the valleys is on its way out, so it really all needs doing at once. He has promised to clear out the gutters while he is up there though. And they should be able to get it done in the next few weeks (I don't have to be here for them to do it).
On the OS front... I'm now down to one bucket of apples left to stew. I need to get the chest freezer sorted out so I can freeze what I've done - although I suspect it will just get chucked in and I'll hope I get round to it later!0 -
Jlhmd, your poor hubby, what a thing to be faced with - my heart goes out to you both. Lets hope they have more sense and keep some one on who knows what they are doing
Thanks ginnyOne section saw a few people given redundancy notices yesterday but OH's section still has no idea. The not knowing is awful. I wish they would just get it over and done with as we've had this hanging over us for months now
We are going blackberry picking today and I'm hoping that my lot will pick enough so I can make an apple & blackberry crumble later. (The apples are off our tree so free as well)
I was really tired last night as the day's activities had left me exhausted however I managed to salvage an old towel and turn it into cloths for the kitchen. OH was laughing at me saying that's what kitchen roll is for but having seen how much he pulls off the roll for a tiny spillage I am going to convert him onto these clothsI'm also going to pick up some microfiber cloths I have been reading about when I get the chance. Anything that cuts down on the amount of cleaning products I buy has to be worth it. Once the bloo is finished in the toilets I'm going to try living with clear water. I don't think we've ever had clear water since we moved here

Thanks for the lovely welcome:)
jlhmd666 I cut out kitchen towel about 2months ago as I am trying to reduce my use of disposables/kitchen products. I only miss it now and again if I want to drain something fried, which isn't often.
Parents visiting today so will be making an oven baked frittata using up sweet pots, Spinach, courgettes and a pack of feta. Will serve it with some potatoes and salad. For desert I am using up some apples to make a spiced apple cake and will have that with ice cream.
DH will have the same for tea and I will just have a sandwich as he is at work today.
Mum will help me with a couple of sewing jobs today; another attempt at taking DS school trousers up as they were too short when I did themand I also need to line our paper thin bedroom curtains with a couple of cream fleeces I bought from ikea on Monday.
I am still full of cold so I don't think DH and I will make it to yoga tonight so today will be a NSD.
Have a great day everyone:)Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%

Good morning,
XSpender, to drain fried stuff you can use old grocery paper bags, save them after shopping. Most greengrocers still have them. I use them several times, to pack DH sandwich lunches and then when irreparably holey and scrunched, they absorb fat from fried stuff. Then they go in the compost.
Today OS:
Bootcamp, thanks goodness the sun is out, could not face working out in the rain.
Then prepare picnic of bread, cheese, plums and apples to have lunch with DH in his lunch break, as I was too lazy/sleepy to get up early today to make his packed lunch!
Then, oh surprise surprise, will I ever tackle the ironing? And to avoid the ironing I might even go and plant the long suffering living salad in the allotment.
Fact is, I am very demotivated and fed up. Hopefully the good weather will help though.
Ok I am off now as getting a lift to bootcamp!
Have a good OS day all. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Haven't spent since Sunday so considering that a win win! OH had to buy some water yesterday though, but we got the cheapest one we could!
At work today and it is crazy town!!
On the food front, I'm running down our stores until we head on holiday on the 10th. I'd like to use all our cans etc before we buy more. I'd hate to throw out perfectly good food cos it's spoilt! Not many offers on in the shops here at the moment so it's going to be a tiny top up shop this week!
Can't wait to my weekend on Thursday!
In OS ways, I am going to try some homemade fudge at the weekend for a change, if it turns out right, it will be utilized for Christmas pressies!
I've no idea what to get my girls this year, I'm thinking of suggesting a day out together and we each pay for brunch? Something small but will save us a few pennies really? Either that or a cheap hamper! I'm really good at that!!
Mums and stepdad are getting new curtains or wallpaper!
Going to maybe do secret Santa with my brothers and sisters.. I think it could be fun!094 Sealed pot member! (7) €185 (8) €138 (9) €€250

This is a great idea, sadly there's only me and my sis so there'd be no secret to it :rotfl:

Pretty good OS day today. Almost an NSD but needed some tomatoes & a red onion as planning on jerk chicken (chicken from freezer bought cheaply earlier in the year) with tomato salsa for dinner tonight and then realised I hadn't got any tomatoes left and none of the home grown ones are ready at the moment! Have bought a couple in to ripen on the window sill but not quite there yet. So had a tiny spend of 26p. So dinner definitely OS.
Lovely to see the sun again. Hoping it stays like it for the next few weeks whilst we're on our holibobs - can't wait to get going!

Lynsayjane, there is 6 of us! And now 1 niece and my sisters step daughter... So it could be fun! Not sure if it would work though!!
OH is stuck in traffic, heading out for some food tonight so it will end my non spending streak of 3 days in a row!!
Tomorrow is free lunch day at work! Whoop! And then it's the weekend! Going to a Lebanese restaurant so it'll be lovely!! Might head to the cinema tomorrow night but I will try and pursued himself to sit in so we can save a some dosh!094 Sealed pot member! (7) €185 (8) €138 (9) €€250

Hehehe so far it has been a NSD (no ironing though, no surprises there) but with some luck it might not stay that way!
At lunchtime I discovered a stash of Poilane bread, the yummy posh overpriced stuff, due to expire tomorrow. I asked when they are planning to sticker it and was told it will happen around 7 pm tonight. Guess who's traveling to w8rose for an outing with a shopping trolley after dinner? Wish me luck! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
I've picked some plums (not a pleasant task as lots of them have wizened gone mouldy on the tree). So far I've prepped a saucepan full, but a fair number need throwing out as they have maggots in
There are a couple more batches of apples to do, then I'll persevere with the plums as much as possible, as between them (and last year's apple juice which there still appears to be plenty of) I should have enough fruit to last me (for breakfasts at least) through the winter.0
