Caterina - Well done on joining the Grocery Challenge. I've been doing this for a few months now but not joined this month's, although I'm still reading. I've answered your query on that thread.

I'm off poorly at the moment so to alleviate the boredom (I'm not quite up to cleaning but equally being sat around isn't good for the blood flow) I'm going to try and reclaim some of my OS skills today by auditing my cupboards and freezer.
That way, I can see what meals I can get out of what we have in rather than being lazy. Unfortunately, I doubt it'll be a NSD because I have to pop to the doctors later which is right next to Aldi and I could do with some fresh fruit which is on Super 6 at the moment.
I am going to try and make a curry with an aubergine that has seen better days, some frozen onions and peppers and some frozen prawns rather rather than waste said aubergine. Plus a bit of spice, garlic and ginger should do wonders for the healing process."We always find something, hey Didi, to give us the impression we exist?" Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot.

Hi, is there room for me to join in too please? I'm not terribly OS but really would love to be so this seems like a good place for me to find my feet. We're getting an allotment in October so will be growing our own veg which will be good and I know I need to see what tins etc I have in the cupboard and what I have in the freezer but apart from that I'm a blank canvas!

Hi Mumof2, have you had a mooch around the rest of the OS forum?
There are loads of tips and lots of friendly people to help."We always find something, hey Didi, to give us the impression we exist?" Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot.

Hi Mumof2 you will feel right at home here
News on the job front: OH's job is safe for now but his hours have been cut so although it is not as bad as I had feared we really need to adopt the OS way even more than I have been trying to do.2016 Grocery Challenge January: £296.20/£300 February: £262.05/£3000 -
I just love saving money any way I can, it's my hobby. lol
I want to focus on food, clothes and bills.
Food - mealplan, cook from scratch and buy from Aldi. Are markets really cheaper??? If so what do you buy there?
Clothes - charity shops love 'em Are there any ways cheaper??
Bills - have a wood burner so need to find wood to make hotwater and central heating! Are there any ways of finding free wood??
Is there any way I can do all this lot cheaper???0 -

:rotfl: I hear you there - I've got so many dried and canned pulses and I've just had to create a separate cupboard for all the gluten filled things that I know Mr Mai won't let me throw out.
I've just made some lazy dinner - I was going to make a pork and aubergine vindaloo but my blender gave up the ghost after 6 years of serious use so I just ended up using some madras paste to give my tired aubergine and defrosted pork strips a makeover.
I've also made a 'fridge forager' soup (I can't remember who coined that one) before Mr Mai comes to pick me up for my GP appointment in 20 odd minutes time so he won't know what's in it as such... could really do with that blender before he gets in"We always find something, hey Didi, to give us the impression we exist?" Thanks for the welcome guys
.
For food I always try to meal plan as much as I can and do tend to cook from scratch rather than pre-prepared sauces etc. I used to always have Tescos delivery but now I use Lidl for as much as I can and then top up at Morrisons. Now call me sad but I got a receipt for Lidl which came out at £72 and listed it all for Tescos online and it came out at £80 !! So if that's £8 a week (and some things on there were for smaller sizes up to Lidl) then I'd say easily £40 a month - £480 a year.
I'll have a browse on the OS board and just see what other gems I can find!Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0 -
Hello, welcome to the thread Mumof2 and Towser!
Jlhmd666 glad that your OH's work is still safe, even on shorter hours, you will manage with your good OS skills and we are here to support you.
Well, so far a NSD and a little earner (3 hours work done) for me. I also had a delicious lunch with my friend, we loved the goats cheese I git yesterday super cheap!
For dinner I need to go to the back garden to dig up a few potatoes as DS is fancying making a potato and courgette omelette, and who am I to complain?
Have a good evening. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
