    Oh, where is everybody today?

Anyway, here's my evening update: NSD as planned, nice day, seen two older ladies, done a laundry, turned some fruit in need of using into a nice compote/fridge jam concoction, too sweet as compote and a bit runny for jam. But it was delicious in yogurt and it is still quite spreadable on toast. It will make do for a fair few breakfasts!

DH has painted wood all day, my hero, saving us a full day of builder's cost, so I am well pleased with him.

I am still shopping from cupboard and fridge for our meals but am relying a bit too much on bread and grains. I really need to address my weight gain, but one thing at a time, once the kitchen is done I shall have a bigger incentive in cooking nice healthier meals.

    Good night.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Morning all:)

Day 2 of my parents visit. Took them out for Sunday lunch. It is amazing how much they have aged and how frail they have become. They are both in their late 80's. Makes you realise, if there is something you want to do, do it while you can!

    Good morning,

Northwest1965, it is so difficult to see our parents grow older and frail. I hope they are enjoying their stay with you.

My OS plan for today is another NSD. It makes me reflect, as I write these words, that I feel a little twitch of something akin to sadness, or regret.

This reaction makes me realise that I am so used to going out with some money in my purse and just pop in to the shops at random, to buy whatever takes my fancy, that when I try to change this habit I meet with some resistance inside. It really means that I have been shopping as a leisurely activity and I am grateful to be learning to drop this habit. It will free me to shop if and when I need it and not as a mindless habit.

I hope to go for some tai chi in the park. There is someone I met there by chance, while walking by, and discovered that he just teaches people "who are dedicated", for free, every Monday and Tuesday, free of charge. I told him I cannot know if I am dedicated as I never did it, and he invited me to join. So today I would like to give it a go. Maybe use this opportunity to introduce a new habit instead of shopping.

But before, I have to make breakfast and packed lunch for DH, who was up at 6 to keep painting the kitchen bits. He deserves a really nice breakfast, I am going to make him chilli tomato scrambled eggs, as my coriander in the garden has grown enough to be usable.

After the park tai chi visit I have my last counselling appointment, then I am faced with the ironing mountain, which has grown with yesterday's laundry.

I commit to iron at least 4 shirts today, so that DH has them ready for the week ahead. Please hold me to it!

Lunch and dinner will be from garden, allotment and fridge forage, and a good shopping in the cupboard. I need to pick the last purple beans so dinner might be Pasta e Fagioli. I have just the right pasta for it. There are some greens growing in the allotment, I shall go and pick a few.

Have a good OS day, hopefully in the sunshine, it looks like another lovely day out there.

Watch to your hearts' content, ladies, and have a good look at 4 beautifully ironed linen shirts, the best of the bunch! Not even scratched the top of the mountain yet, but at least DH has shirts for the rest of the week and if the weather is not too hot he can wear them twice in rotation and will last him until I do some more ironing LOL!

NSD grocery-wise but had to pay a hefty sum for the kitchen drawers, ah well that was budgeted for and had to be done.

Change of meal plans: minestrone soup at lunchtime instead of salad as the weather got a bit cold and wet, and dinner was mishmash (leftovers) soup, as I discovered that DS had not eaten the dinner we saved him last night. All went in the pot with added frozen spinach, water and bouillon powder. It was yummy, too!

I loved the free tai chi lesson this morning, much harder than it looks and it will take me a long time to remember the moves, but I am delighted to have found it. And free, isn't it lovely? The guy who teaches it told me that he does it because he loves it and wants to pass it on.

Counselling was good and I am glad it is over, I am no longer in a crisis and glad I can free the space for someone who is.

I helped DS with job search and got a lesson from the plumber on how to use our new boiler. All the plumbing is done, yippee! The electrician still has a few more bits and will be back tomorrow but soon I shall have a fully functional washing machine again, and life will be easier! The builder will hopefully do the rest and I hope that mid September will see me into my new kitchen.

    Good night.

  • Well my summer is officially over and I'm back to work after the long summer holidays.

It certainly feels like autumn is on the way. I've hauled my lap blanket out of the cupboard. We always try to hold out on the heating until November. Fingers crossed for mild weather until then.

Sounds like excellent progress Caterina on the new kitchen. You will think that you have landed in the lap of luxury once it's all done.

    Hi all,
Been MIA for a few days and has taken me ages to catch up phew you lot have been busy! Need to update my sig but came in under budget on the August GC yea still have money left over but this was a use up month so although going for same will be a bit tougher methinks.
Two big bills while been away, DS1 had phone nicked and 'someone' racked up a £300 bill in 23 hours, contract in my name so will have to wait for statement to see if they can do anything but not optimistic. Second one was car decided to break down and have a garage bill for £110 oh well could have been worse. On a positive note my fennel has blossomed and have 4 little pokey things growing and the salad tray is looking good.
Back to work next week so plan to do some batch cooking and put into 1 2 and 4 portions for tired nights in the freezer Loving all the clean cupboard stories and audits from the capable 'OS Warehouse Managers' on here lol.
Tai Chi is really good for posture, reducing stress and lowering blood pressure so good luck with that Caterina.

Just seen the time and better get a wiggle on to bed - night all.

    Good Morning

I made GF bread in my bread maker from my prescription bread mix for the first time in over a year on Sunday and oh my it was fantastic.:j I think my palate must have changed as I last made it when I was first diagnosed and if anyone has ever had GF bread you will know it isn't like real bread. This was crusty on the outside and soft on the inside like real bread and was twice the size of the £1.90-£3.00 tiny loaves I can buy in the supermarket.

I am shattered this morning after my car alarm kept going off at 5am and wouldn't reset, DH had to disconnect the battery. It's a good job I don't need to be anywhere today. DS is still asleep!

Today I have DS new teacher popping in for a home visit(he starts school on Thursday:() and I need to have a quick tidy and vacuum. Will also strip and wash the bedding and remake the beds, wash a load of towels and take DS school trousers up or he will be going along with the pins still in!

They need a temp at DH work due to someone's illness at a crucial time and it would have been ideal for me but I would only be able to do school hours and they will need someone 9-5 minimum.

Planning chicken and leek pie for tea with carrots and kale so best go fish some chicken out of the freezer to defrost.

    Have a lovely day :)
