Managed to have an OS bank holiday Monday and an NSD mainly due to DS1 buying some teabags which doesn't count! Thought I was in front sorting out the xmas cupboard until I read the OS Christmas thread, now feel in awe and way behind but as I am not hosting this year I am planning a family affair with emphasis on the spirit rather than the money. Made my first batch of limoncello yesterday which should be ready in time for xmas for gifts
I will be returning to work in two weeks so busy trying to plan for the sustainability of my OS ways so far -
have defrosted freezer and now have a list of whats in there
all cupboards have been cleaned and organised
window sill salad coming on nicely, broccoli and spinach growing but fennel is a no show. Have sown winter cabbage in the back which hopefully should be ready for March/April
My room decluttered (nearly finished) and items sent to CS and box of stuff to ebay ready to list
Booked gardener for next week to heavily prune and turn over the 'over established' front garden for £30 which includes removing the greenery and is a bargain
    Foraged fruit which was 'free'
Today has been an inside day but as the weather is windy but fine will take the dog out to blow away the cobwebs and get some much needed sunlight and exercise.
Dinner will be HM fish pie with cabbage and carrots and there is never any LO's.
Have a good day all - and to the kitchenless among you have my admiration I cannot imagine living without one - last time I had a new one was 20 years ago and I went on holiday and returned when it was finished!

  • Today? Well I'm going to take the slippers which had me sliding down the stairs two weeks ago, to the shoe repairer to see if he can put on stick on soles to make them skid free.

If someone else has mentioned this I do apologise, but I know I've seen online that applying caulk (the stuff you'd use in the bathroom) to the bottom of shoes can help increase traction. It's something that you might have lying around in a shed or garage perhaps?

Went shopping today and so far I'm under budget however I haven't bought Sunday's meat and accompaniments yet. This may well take me over budget as I forgot to get a couple of things but sticking to a list really helps keep costs down :)

Caterina - Never nice when we fall out with the other half. I'm lucky in that I very rarely fall out with mine but I must admit he is having to put up a lot with the menopausal woman at the mo (well at least that's my excuse).

Having just had my kitchen done recently, I'm with you on the frustration and dust that kitchens bring although I couldn't help but chuckle at where you're washing your dishes at the mo. I knew what you meant but it still made me laugh

    Hello,

    Welcome Shovel Lad and thriftmonster!

    Greenland! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

A bit of a carp day today. All day at home and not even a NSD as I bought a lightshade online for the kitchen and ordered tickets to go to Scotland with DH (who incidentally does not deserve the D at the moment - am furious for some really horrible thing he said to me).

Living as I am, without kitchen and having to do the washing up in the toilet has really taken its toll. I am too old for this nonsense.

Ah, well, rant over. I hope to be able to sleep tonight, with this anger exploding inside!

    Good night.

Hope today is a little brighter for everyone. Two NSDs for me over the weekend. I'm sitting in doing my Big Knit Challenge for Innocent and Help the Aged. Started off like a good idea at the time although the emphasis was supposed to be on using scraps of wool. I didn't have much so I bought a few balls here and there on my travel a while ago. Good grief I'm so fed up of seeing the colours now. Wouldn't mind but I reckon I've got enough wool to see me through till 2015's Challenge. Have done over 115 hats up to now. Little and quick to do. Not a lover of pom poms though.
I got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.

Day 2 of DH being away. Meat free meals going well.

Won't be spending any £'s this week. Mum & Dad are coming up at the weekend. Watch the £'s fritter away as I want to spoil them. :)

Hello. I've worked yesterday so earnt rather than spent. Now I'm self employed I try to work where possible otherwise I don't get paid.

We're now down to only 3 drinking glasses. We had some from freecycle a couple of years ago but they've got broken over time so I was going to ask again. Mr GBT [sorry Mr Gnat Bottomed Towers] has remembered that we've got clear plastic tumblers sitting up in the loft with the picnic set so we've pressed those into service.

    Hello,

Welcome to the thread XSpender and x--weezy--x!

jlhmd666, I hope your OH keeps his job, best wishes x

Thank you all for your support and understanding in respect of both kitchen and marital fallouts. The kitchen is a nuisance but I can (just about barely) cope with it if I have peace with DH and not strife. Luckily this us the case for the most part. We seem you have reach a state of affectionate calm and finally he has admitted that he also is very frustrated by the builder's no shows. They are mates and he finds conflict very difficult. I would just go there, guns blazing, but cannot do it because of the friendship with DH.

Anyway, today totally non OS day, frustration and fedupness drove me out of the house, I did the babysitting but offered to take the girls to the cinema and then pizza, at my expense, as I had promised them a summer treat. Their mum is good to me and gives me lots of work so I am glad to do a treat outing once or twice a year. We went to see The Nut Job, it was actually quite funny, then shared 2 pizzas for the 3 of us. Overall not at all expensive, lots of fun and kept me out of the mayhem house.

Briefly back I sorted out some computer problems, reinstalled the printer then shot off again, went shopping for risotto rice, wine, goats cheese and Parmesan. I really craved a nice creamy squash, spinach and goats cheese risotto! The only OS things about it were the spinach from my garden and giving some to my Indian neighbours who have fed my family repeatedly in these recent months. In fact the old lady gave me a bowl of curry veg and a pack of freshly made chappatti, dinner for tomorrow is sorted!

Hoping to be more OS tomorrow.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Welcome Xpender. Hopefully a new start for you in a better and less stressful new job.:)

Glad you have made it up Caterina. Aren't relationships funny? One minute they are your moon and stars and the next you could quite cheerfully send them on a one way ticket to the moon!

Had a lovely day today. Mum and Dad had a little windfall and took me and my sister out for lunch. They absolutely refused to let us pay and apart from wrestling my elderly mother to the ground and forcing the cash in her handbag there was nothing I could do so I conceded gracefully.

Following the advice offered here earlier in the week I tackled the gift buying issue. It turns out that mum and dad are finding it a bit of a strain too. They have eight Grandchildren and an ever expanding number of partners and great grandchildren adding to their list. We've agreed that gift buying will stop at the age of 21 and that we will send out a family circular so that everyone knows and nobody gets offended- much relieved to have finally tackled the issue!

Mum and Dad gave me a big bag of apples from their trees so I am going to make a Tart Tatin tomorrow-yummy! OH found a popcorn maker in the loft (we were looking for the sleeping bags!!). Going to give it a try and if we don't get some use out of it then it's heading to the charity shop as I seriously need to de-clutter.
