Good morning OS ers! Mind if I join in? Like a few on here my OS ways have hit the roadside due to inattention and working long hours however now have a few weeks sick leave following foot surgery so I am trying to use the time well to get back my mojo. I have been reading for a while and am inspired at what can be achieved in such a short time and must admit to being good in the short term but now want to look at making this more sustainable as I hurtle towards retirement...
Have already made inventory of freezers and cupboards and posted weekly menu on t'other thread and watching my spends and keeping away from the shops.
Busy decluttering as well as just have too much 'stuff'so that is the plan this week. Seeds are sprouting - have salad leaves, broccoli and fennel, have a 'yarden' but no lottie so just giving it a go as nothing to lose.
Washing pegged out just hope it stays there! Yesterday had to collect it from the garden as the wind was so strong.
Re the courgette - put it in a veggie lasagne? Great padding and takes up the flavours of the herbs.
I am looking at preserving lemons as managed to get 9 big ones which are unwaxed for bargain price of 76p - anyone tried this?
Better get a wiggle on as the day will be gone! Hope everyone has a good day

Hello 1of3, welcome to the thread and well done on your OS day! I am puzzled by your location, 2nd star to the right, is that a reference to the island that is not there? So the next instruction should read "then straight on till morning"!
Hello Caterina thank you fior the warm welcome! 2nd star to the right and straight on till morning is correct!
...then you can find the way for yourself, it leads to the island that's not there! :jFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

Funnily enough I was talking to my sister earlier and she suggested the veggie lasagne so looks like that's what we'll be having later in the week!
I've done preserved lemons in the past - in fact I've still got some as I don't use them very often. I've got no idea how long they keep but the last time I used them they were still OK and I still shake the jar from time to time! I think the recipe I used was from the BBC website.

Hey all!! Second NSD in a row today, going to try and make it through till Thursday (not counting paying for my driving licence as it's a necessity!)..
Eating from the cupboards etc..
I love living abroad but the one thing is food is an extortionate price!! I seem to spend about €65 a week for 2 of us!! The cheapest tin of tomatoes etc is around 50p each so you can see it adding up! Meat is so expensive as well! Plan to try and do a tiny shop at the weekend and see if I can clear out our freezer a bit... Want to get that bill down pronto!!!094 Sealed pot member! (7) €185 (8) €138 (9) €€250

Hello everyone
Have set up to get notifications for this thread really must start saving again in a big way, have nothing put by for Christmas, 2 grandchildrens birthdays coming up plus dd,dil and sil birthdays all in next couple of months!!
Have been to Aldis today followed a list completely, for a weeks shopping after going through store cupboard and F/F, all things I used to do regularly before sliding backwards into shopping daily spending far more using M & S a bit too much!
Tomorrow will do some baking and will try and dig over raised borders DH started for vegetables earlier in year then never completed, what can anyone recommend this time of year to plant ? We have got plenty of raspberries and blackberries in garden so picked these will freeze.
Using left over veg and cauliflower cheese from yesterday's dinner to go with chicken pieces, not so long ago These would have gone straight in recycling bin.
I can do this thanks Caterina for giving me the much needed push xFrugal challenge 2025

Spring cabbage, Kale. I have sown the last lot of my lettuce. You can "I think" sow winter lettuce. Get your turnips in now. Broccoli raab
Caterina is an allotment holder so perhaps she will be more help than me.
I love this site for some great info

I've had a sort of OS day dodging the showers and trying to get the washing dry without resorting to the tumble drier, which I rarely do. At the moment my towels are on the airer in the bathroom and I'm hoping they will be dry as I have a visitor tomorrow and I don't like the washing around when visitors come.
Not an NSD as I went to Sainsbugs as they have given me £1 off a £20 spend to tempt me back into their refurbished store. How very generous! However I wasn't going to waste it so went for their half price beef and a few bits we really needed. The beef is cut in half and frozen away to make us two reasonably priced Sunday Joints and plenty of leftovers to get creative with.
