Good Morning All
Caterina, the bunnies are very cute and cheeky so I don't mind too much. At least they didn't chew anything on their great escapes, they did manage to get into their food bag and eat about 3 days worth of food though. My puzzle started well, I sorted all the edge pieces and started putting them together but this seemed to have been an invitation to the cat who then proceeded to walk over all the pieces and then lay down on them! Your allotment sounds lovely, it is a future dream of mine but for now, I will have to grow what I can in my garden.
DD2 went out for dinner with her boyfriend and his friends last night and then onto a party, I called her at 1.45am and they were just on their way back home so I didn't get to sleep until I heard her come in and then I heard her get up at 7.30am so got up to see if she was OK (do you ever get back to decent sleep after having children)?.....she was starving so was stood in the kitchen making peanut butter on wholemeal toast, a fresh kiwi and a cup of green tea with a slice of lemon in. She has taken it back to bed so just me, the cats and dogs left up, sure I will see DH, DD and her boyfriend some time this morning :rotfl:
Nothing planned for today but we will be having a lovely, if very small, piece of roast beef for lunch with all the trimmings, DD will have the veg part as she is a veggie. The washing machine needs to be put on but I need to wait for the few remaining items from DD before I start it so I could be waiting a while.
Wishing you all a lovely OS day0 -
KGood evening,
MOS the answer is NO. Until your children leave home, you don't sleep, with the worry, the noises they make coming in and out at all hours, they say they are "adults" (God help us!) and we should not limit their outings! Then when they leave home we worry for a while and then we get used to it, and start sleeping again!
What an absolutely lovely day DH and I had. I have to recommend the film we saw very highly, Testament of Youth, it was sad, harrowing even, but so beautifully acted, lyrical, realistic and the photograph is out of this world.
We came out sad and moved, but we cheered ourselves up by going to a Wassailing event in a small local park, where a few folk groups sang and Morris dancers danced. We did not stay long as we were quite hungry. We were on a NSD (yep, bagged no. 6!), so we went home for lunch.
After lunch we went to the allotment, last chance to drastically prune the vine and while I had the secateurs in my hands I also pruned the plum tree branches that poke through the fence, hoping that the tree will fruit again as richly as last summer this year. DH weeded and dug up a box and I wheeled a couple of barrows of manure to cover the freshly dug ground. One down, 11 to go! This year we are determined to make a success of the allotment after neglecting it so badly last year because of kitchen works and various troubles.
Back home, DH wanted biscuits but as NSD was on I baked some, made a large batch and delivered a tray to our neighbour's son who is 18 today. His mum sent me back with a bag full of homemade samosas and pakoras and a box of curried chickpeas. Delicious. All I had to do for dinner was to make a salad. DS was out so we sat on the sofa upstairs (as the living room is being replastered), watching catch up TV (no antenna upstairs) and we watched a delightful musical, very gentle and funny. Our dear Ziggy cat sat between us enjoying the cuddles and we had a lovely, peaceful evening.
In bed now and quite sleepy. Early morning work was cancelled for tomorrow but I have an early start anyway for DH's breakfast and pack lunch.
Good night. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
I will aim to post more often on here. I have been reading and am managing ni spend days and am thinking about what I spend money on but allowing myself small treats. On Friday a car needed a service so after taking it to garage and going to post office I had a coffee and village tearoom before I walked home. Not necessary but a luxury.
I spent most of yesterday in garden but had prepared tea before so no takeaways. Mainly tidied up and planted a couple of trees - xmas presents.
I'm trying to curb DH lets have a takeaway or go out to eatby having food nearly ready - working some of the time.
I'm still eating from freezer and stores mainly..
Glad you seem recovered Caterina from your op.0 -
Good morning,
Lovely to see you back Villagelife! Thank you for your kind words, I am ok now.
Treats are necessary, not luxuries, the odd coffee and cake out are what makes life interesting and pleasurable. Different things can be treats, sometimes free but sometimes it is necessary to make a small investment in oneself by parting with money. It is when they become a habit that treats lose their special appeal.
I had got there before starting this diary. I would think nothing of stopping into a cafe or bakery to pick up something to eat or drink while out and about. I had also developed a really lax attitude to food buying, including takeaways and meals out. It was only when I realised how much money was pouring out in unnecessary expenses (credit card statement shock therapy!) that the Old Style instinct kicked in, I wrote my first post of this thread and the rest is history.
I find it useful to set out to have NSDs and planned(ish) shopping days.
With takeaways, I just started a takeaway pot and asked the men of the family to contribute with spare coins, but soon we lost the habit and now only have a takeaway rarely, mostly instigated by me if I am really tired and cannot cook.
Today's OS plan goes like this:
Up in a few minutes (now still drinking cup of tea in bed, courtesy of my lovely DH). Make DH breakfast and pack lunch, which is leftover soup plus cheese sandwich. No breakfast for me as I have a blood test at 9:10, but then back home for a bit of food.
11am I am trying a new over 50s keep fit class, I hope it is enjoyable and not too lethargic. I think I know the teacher and if it is who I think the class is good and worth traveling to.
Then food shopping with the voucher, lunch and today I start work with the boys again, school pick up.
Tonight DH has bootcamp so I need to cook something hot and light before he goes at 7. Probably steamed carrot and kale with roast sweet potato and veggie something from the freezer.
Have a good OS day. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
caterina, glad you are starting to feel better. Hope you enjoy your fitness class, it sounds like it will be good. Re not sleeping until the kids leave.........my DD2 (17) had advised me she isn't going to move out for a long time as it's so nice here! Now while I am very pleased she loves it here, the thought of her staying for another 10 years or so.....
Today is my second session of acupuncture, since having the last session, my CFS has worsened but not entirely convinced the 2 things are related so I will continue for another couple of sessions just to be sure.
We have a yellow weather warning out for our area on Wednesday so I have been around the garden and put all the empty plant pots in the greenhouse, secured the swing seat and put the canopy away. A few other small things to do just in case it is as bad as the recent weather in Scotland.
A mini rant here, at myself....I went to get 2 pieces of chicken breast out of the freezer that we keep in the garage and I can't have been concentrating because before I knew it, the drawer fell out and it has smashed the Perspex front so now I have to spend £25 getting a replacement drawer front!
Wishing you all a lovely OS day0 -
The weather has helped me not spend. I got Asda to deliver yesterday, just the minimum spend, and we went up to the bank today before the weather really closes in again. The lying snow has melted but now its starting to snow again, and the wind seems to have gone on forever here. I did grab meself some sweeties as the shop is thankugod right next to the bank.....0

I was told re my fibro cfs that I should have no massage or acupuncture or acupressure as it can psych out the muscles and tendons and their nerves. I had shiatsu massage when I was still working - 20 years ago - and haven't worked a day since.
Physiotherapists just shrug fibro/cfs patients off too

Thank you for posting Ailz, it has confirmed what I thought, that the acupuncture had made it worse. I had another session yesterday and the pain in my muscles is awful. I haven't even managed to put the Hoover around today which is something I try and do everyday. My sleep pattern is bad at the best of times but it took until 3am before I finally dozed off and then woke up about 6 or 7 times before the alarm went off for DH at 7.30am.
I don't think I will have the next session booked for 2 weeks time0 -
MOS - hope the pain starts to ease soon so you can sleep more normally for you and you can manage to do a few yhings.
Cleared out a couple of cupboards in the kitchen yesterday and have thrown out a few items not good enough for charity shop and not sure why I had kept them.
I have sorted how much (or little)money I have left but with budgeting enough for the month.0 -
Good evening,
MOS your acupuncturist should know better than to treat you if your condition is a contraindication for acupuncture, I would complain if I were you, and check that they are properly qualified, so you can complain to their qualifying body. What a nuisance, both my mother and my aunt were very badly hurt by (qualified) physios, different places and different situations, but same over enthusiastic treatments. Not a nice thing to happen. I hope your pain gets better.
Mardatha careful about melted and refrozen snow under fresh snow! I know you like a bit of white on the ground so I hope you enjoy that part. Stay nice and warm!
Ailz95 sorry you had such a bad experience with shiatsu, that is another of those therapies that can be a godsend in good experienced hands but really agonising and damaging if the therapist is inexperienced and overenthusiastic, I had a lot of painful shiatsu in the past, being told that it was "good for me to release" etc...(bull****!!!) and only after I spoke with someone very experienced I was told that there is another way, much gentler, that has the same effect, almost just massaging over the points. But I suppose a lot of therapies are very little regulated and we can get unlucky and fall into the wrong hands, sadly.
Villagelife congratulations on more decluttering, and I hope that your budgeting works well, that you have enough to see you through the month without too many sacrifices.
Today I had a nice day, starting very early, I had the litle boy before school to look after. He is such a sweetheart and also his little dog is a gem, it is a real pleasure to be there, even if for such a short time, makes for a good start of the day.
Back home, I cooked a big pan of kidney beans that were in soak, sorted out my sourdough/fridge dough bowls and used up the excess sourdough starter by mixing it with a bit more flour and turning it into Chappattis, then fried some mushrooms and eggs to go with them. DS loved it, told me that this is one of the best breakfasts in his 25 years of life, how sweet is that? I shall of course make them again if he loves them so much, and it is great because it means I do not need to discard the sourdough excess when feeding the starter, I can just use it for chappattis!
Later on I went to my first Tai Chi lesson of this year, it was good to be back and feel a bit of relaxation and exercise my body. Then back home I had lunch and made a batch of cookies, some for home and some for a friend who I was going to visit. Fatal mistake as I ate a fair few! But my friend loved them, the boys I look after in the afternoon loved them (I gave them a few) and my men are loving them.
Dinner was polenta with a sauce of kidney beans in tomato sauce with grated cheese, and steamed kale. The men had cookies for pudding.
All in all a busy but satisfactory day. I hope to sleep well tonight again, it makes such a difference.
Good night. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
